Play more hands in position and stop cold calling and check calling. Other words stop being a calling station and raise more.

It seems the number one advice is "never call, always raise".

Is this intended to reduce the number of hands you play?
In other words, only play hands that are so good that you can comfortably raise? Forces you to not play marginal hands.

Or it it intended to improve your fold equity? You're always going in strong, so more people are going to fold. Getting you more pots.

Or is it a combination of both?

A slow play will crush your precious "position" every time.
It's vastly overrated. Having a boat will win regardless of position.

Bet sizing is key. Position is not.

How often do boats happen and how often can you have position on your opponents?

If you play poker just waiting for a boat, blinds are going to beat you in the long run.

"Full ring is a boring game!" That helped me a lot to see that I'm really a lot better playing with 4 or less player on the table.

"You can't win a tournament on the first hand." That one got me thinking about flips with AK are just not Worth it. If can see the flop, go for it.

That you don't have to be the best poker player in the world. You just have to be better than the majority of the players at your table. Great advice for table selection.

inchworm/alm

Jared Tendler's explanations of the adult learning model and the inchworm concept really helped me in my study.

I'd be trying to absorb everything new without making sure I firmly, firmly, firmly understood the simpler things before moving onto the most advanced.

I'm currently working on the back end of my inchworm so that the front end can move up more. This consists of going over all of the fundamentals again...7 years into my poker career. It's refreshing and good.

x2 and then some.

I'd like to pile on here.

"Cards are everything" ....no, no no no.

If you sit around waiting to play only good cards, you're going to both be blinded off and you're not going to get any action when you do play if the villains at the table have 2 brain cells to rub together.

It's not "cards, cards, cards," it's "position, position, position."

"If you think are beaten, you are; If you think you dare not, you don't. If you'd like to win but think you can't It's almost a cinch you won't.... Life's battles don't always go to the stronger or faster man, but sooner or later the man who wins is the one who thinks he can."

C. W. Longenecker

This is two excerpts actually, that get me a little emotional as it pertains to my life, and not just poker. It is from a poem Longenecker wrote called the Victor, and put me in a particular mental state of being that helped me tremendously after a motorcycle accident left me in critical condition for some time many years ago.

It is better to win a small pot than to lose a big one. Slow playing hands allows players to draw out on you. Be aggressive and take the small pot instead of slowing playing and letting them draw out on you.

You're basically espousing the whole "Always raise, never check" addage?
