I think mine goes like that - Just like you are not in a particular hand, doesnt mean that you are not playing at all. Thats the mistake that most people make, lack of observation.

Not that I play according to that advice, but I think it makes a lot of sense.

My dad told me regarding the stock market, and it applies well to poker too:

If you can't afford to lose it, leave it in the bank. If you can lose it and not miss it, play 'er hard.

Don't soft play, the one that u fail to bet will be the one that u'll need to call in desperate times ~~~~~ A poker buddy of mines says that his brother told him that and he in turn transcended it on to me

Even a broken Clock is right twice a day. Do not relay on a hand just because it won for someone else. Also remember everyone else is here to win too. A friend while playing a tournament.

Lots of good advice posted but mine is and always will be about bankroll management and tilt control. You need to be properly rolled for poker. My one friend is probably better at the game than me but I have been much more successful than him. The reason is he plays out of his bankroll. He has gone busto both live and online several times. I don't care how good you are; you will go through downswings. If you are not rolled properly you will go broke. Similarly, tilt will make you busto. I never get mad at the tables. I always keep a leveled head. I never get too high or too low. If you get unbalanced one way or another, you will lose. Another tilt advice, do not mock other players especially fish. They are what makes this game worth playing. We had a really juicy game at one of the casinos going every Thursday. All of the guys were nice but also clueless. Of course, sometimes the clueless get lucky and win. One guy at the game was a sore loser and yelled at a couple of the players. Then, they stopped coming and the game got tougher to beat. they were having fun and losing money and not caring. then it was ruined by one guy. moral of the story: you need to be happy for them and not berate their play. They are what puts money in our pockets. Play nice and keep then coming.

Position means little.
If they're got a boat, your position will do squat for you.
Cards are everything.
Give me a boat every hand, and I will win every hand.

Two things:
Money saved is worth just as much as money won - paraphrased - Mike Caro on chasing loses and playing loose. (Super System 2)

Play very aggressively. Aggression is what separates very good players from world class players. -paraphrased- Doyle Brunson (Super System)

Sorry but this advice is very VERY poor and if you do not realize that, then you really have ALOT to learn about the game.

A slow play will crush your precious "position" every time.
It's vastly overrated. Having a boat will win regardless of position.

Bet sizing is key. Position is not.

gavin smith once told me, sometimes you have to fold the best hand to win a turny. you can never win a turny in one hand, but you can go broke in one as well. so make sure you take your time.

If you want to become a professional poker player, it makes sense to deposit money every month. You should be able to earn their own money.
