Tilt isn’t something that effects the way I play. When I do experience tilt I’m always aware of it and before I make any decisions I ask myself if I would do that if I wasn’t tilted by what just happened. This helps me to play within my game.

Interesting point. I don't believe that everyone tilts. Even would go as far to say that some players have never tilted. There's getting upset which is just the natural reaction to a beat. And then there's tilting which is anger that actually affects your play. People should learn that it's okay to be upset and that you can still play intelligently.

I think there's more to add: use programs such as a holdem manager etc, because it increases the chances of winning

Unless Phil Hellmuth acts for television I never understood how he has been able to withstand the swings of being a primarily MTT player.

...it happens to everyone! Ever watch Phil Helmuth or a few other pros I could mention, and they play hours, a day every day. What is really difficult to take is not just loosing a good hand to a better one, or even a worse one-is when it happens 2-3 times in a row. Then I have to be sent to time out! Nothing in my playbook prepares me for that. Period.

Very good article, and great subject which all of us are often involved, with respect to the variance and the tilt, we have to be aware of it at every moment and not lose the head or the money.
I liked the advice of keeping a positive and negative record of the times we have gone through this experience. And I always say that every circumstance teaches us, we must maintain control and do the right things to get back in the lane.

A method that suits everyone does not exist. To solve the problem, you must first recognize that it exists. Then find out the cause of the occurrence and draw the right conclusions.

Hello how are you?
I happened to be on tilt, and when I lose moustrous hands vs weak hands, it has happened to me many times, the first few times until he lost all the chips, and thus being eliminated from the tournament. But by little I begin to accept the variance, and try not to get upset when I lose that way. Today I take a break, or try to think that it can happen and I should re-focus and keep playing.

Five great suggestions for dealing with tilt. I like them all, but I seldom take a break from the table following a bad beat or a downswing. My bladder is more likely to take me from the table.

Most often I tilt after a bad beat, but it does not last long. I may play a hand or two that should be folded, but then I get back on track with an ABC game plan. I am math-focused, so I understand that 'any two will do' can beat my QQ. Don't like it, but there is always the next hand.

Great find in this post.

I always found #5 eliminates #1 the best. When people see you in a bad beat hand, they see every little thing that goes through your head. Your table perception has a lot to do with how you end up on tilt. People just know where you are going. Give yourself a long enough break to give them something else to focus on.

Do not drink alcohol while playing, the best advice is smoking one cigarette after tilt and take a deep breath :)

Its difficult to overcome on begin poker carrier , with more experience you can used on it, not total but enough to continue normal to play.
Its important to understand that this is normal. I never sure even i have best cards that ill win until i see river card.
One of nightmare tilt was when i played in important tournament and someone beat my pair with shit cards, i was than in Top 10 players. I do everything good, bet big preflop, post flop, but he call everything with nothing. I cant blame myself that i can do something else in that moment. Shit happen

1. Read Tommy Angelo's book painless poker. It's gold.
2. Develop an ability to meditate and be aware of your breathing while sitting at table. Intake/outake.
3. Connect with someone you love.
4. Make a mental list of things you are grateful/thankful for and think about why you're thankful for those things.
5. Tilt comes down to thought life. Control your thoughts and you control tilt. Devolop a non-outcome based outlook on life. Be able to celebrate playing well more than scooping a big pot.

I think it's one of the main reasons why becoming a professional player is so difficult. You must have absolute control of your emotions. This is not something that can be achieved from one day to the next, it requires a lot of practice and discipline, maybe the same one that is needed to study the game. I am currently trying to work on it, I think we would all improve considerably as poker players if we paid more attention to this as we would incredibly reduce our losses. So, there is no magic formula to not enter tilt. But if there are a series of steps that can help you with this, for example: Understand the luck factor in poker, rationalize each situation and be satisfied if you took the move with the highest EV independently of the result.

I can really identify with the breathing techniques. Meditation is great. I am working on quitting smoking cigarettes, and plan to employ this exercise when I can really commit to my health.
