Look for a loss limit. If you no longer control the game and lose a greater sum than you had set then stop playing.
Each negative emotion feeds the tilt. If you are already in a bad mood to a game all you do is increase the risk of tilt, it is advisable to stop, take a break, make a completely different activity to poker. I try to do physical activity to get rid of the bad mood, to expel the negative energy and fill myself with dopamine, so your mind changes. When the mind is in another state, then I could review the hand or hands in which I lost, analyze it objectively and learn from this to move differently in the same situation at the future.

we all know and use our own ways to avoid tilt. what is described in the article adds mental relief to the brain with very strong unsuccessful sessions, but I disagree with the opinion about beer. sometimes during the game I can drink a couple of liters of this soft drink, I will add that the trip to the kitchen for a new portion helps to relieve stress from swearing at his bad game and good luck rivals. while it is slowly poured into the glass, there is a slight peace. but my favorite way is to close the client and start watching the news, only it helps to keep the bankroll (or part of it).

I've never been a fan of the "distance" theory, but I absolutely agree that if it's panic-stricken in poker, it's best to take a break and come back with a cold mind the next time.

I like to use a false tilt. It is a tilt, but no. For example, after a big pot loose due to a really hurting bad , I only enter in the hand with a premium hand and I go suddenly all in, independent the position I am. This works very well and if you suffer another bad beat, is like the article said, downswing period. Be patient.
But after a really bad beat big pot loose, if I receive avarage hands, I simple fold to think better and breath. I think is important to put down the adrenaline of a big pot battle.

Sooner you can come to accept aspect of poker that are out of your control, you move forward into personal growth with the game. Sorry I didn't realize this early on, would saved lot of grief.

You have control of calling, raising or folding. Did I make the right call? Was it the correct call? Should I have folded? Yes to those questions should be the only unemotional feeling or thought needed. Yes, right call wrong results, nothing I could have done differently. No, then something to look at next time. Disassociate the negative emotion, look for a different approach next time with hopefully a more favorable result.

Taking negative emotions from the table will keep you going further in that event. It has even prevented me from playing if I'm not in a positive mood to start a tournament. Rather start and finish positive, for me then, tilt is never an issue.

Many times the tilts can be a secondary effect caused by situations in your personal life .. the problem is how to realize that this is happening? poker is such a complicated game and with so many variations that it could take one or two weeks to detect the mental "virus" that is causing the damage in your game .. much more when you play an AA correctly and lose ... then you start to question that decision making and the next opportunity you decide to play differently and you lose your hand because the best way was with the one you lost .. so, it is a game so complicated that falling in tilts is the most normal .. you can fall in tilts several times a day .. the question is that getting out of the tilt is not easy.

This is a good thread. Went on a tear last night couldnt lose. Today, complete opposite. Every premium hand I had got busted played position perfect slow rolled some fast played others but couldnt buy a pot to save my life so I closed out to clear my mind and come on here and calm down because we all have bad swings! But that saddle won't mount itself gotta get back on that horse! Going back in wish me luck!

My way of beating tilt is to stop playing for an hour or two and go for a walk so i can clear my head.Taking a walk is really effective for me in handling the defeat no matter how bad it was for my bankroll.I always feel refreshed after the walk and can handle anything.Another way is stretching if i am playing during the night,it helps loosen the body and make me relax.

Very interesting article. The most tricky part is number three. Many times we tilt and do not sense it because it is usually the "entitlement" tilt. We think: "I did everything right, HE played like a complete idiot and won!"
I think I have to work a lot more on this aspect!

Thank you for very useful article! No one is insured of hitting the tilt and we always have to be careful and to control uor game. Understanding when you are on tilt is the most important factor, becouse you can take measures to overcome it and take a break if you need it.
So I advise you always control your bankroll and avoid tilt!

I give as many bad beats as I get, it all evens out in the end so there is no need to get emotional over them, at the speed that online poker is played (especially when multi tabling) you don't have time to tilt you need to concentrate on the next hand.

We all know what s a tilt , a bad beat can makes you enter into a tilt. I consider tilt as redcard in football sport, so to avoid it you should watch for the 1st yellow card ( in football, if you get 2 yellow cards , you will be out -> red card) . So to avoid first yellow card , you must leave your emotions aways and get your head free , you must 100% concentrated, focus on the game, variance also have a big role , if u re in a negative variance , you better take a break. Sometimes it s useful to take a break and clear your head . And after all tilt happen to pro players. So , try knowing the moment you should take a break and beat it .

Excellent article. I just happened yesterday with a player. He was winning a lot, then he started insulting in the chat, and in the end he ended up losing more than half of what he had won. And he retired.
I've also fallen on the tilt, I despair that I'm the last one in chips with a big difference ... or when it bothers me that an opponent is bluffing and always all in, and wins out of pure luck , or when at the tables of money that I do not fall the good cards and when they fall, they beat my hand with a stroke of luck of the opponent who got into the ring with cards of lesser value ... until scream of frustration cursing everyone hahaha, the situation is that after enduring, there are moments that come the good moves.

My advice is: relax and play when you feel good. The rest of games do them in normal to improve and not lose the touch that then will serve you in a future play. It is a game and like any activity, obsessing with it leads to absolute failures.

Too be honest I never really found a way to combat tilt it always happen from time to time and always affect me. I guess after that many bad sessions I get accustomed to it I just keep playing most of the times. I have tried most of what the article suggest but I am too competitive to not get emotional and I always expect to win so I tend to mostly dig myself out of the hole or bury myself trying.

Nice article though I am sure many will find it useful.

Winner's Tilt

While tilt is anger towards losing big hands, but I've also identified another type of tilt which can be even more dangerous, called Winner's Tilt. Winner's Tilt is when you win a big hand and get that rush of adrenaline. once you get that rush of adrenaline, you can end up playing even worse than when you go on tilt because it makes you want to gamble. You feel just a little bit invulnerable and end up opening your range, calling hands you would normally fold to and generally taking a few more risks than normal simply because you feel so great. Winner's Tilt can be worse than Tilt because once you start losing again you can go from Winner's Tilt straight to regular Tilt at a moment's notice. Also, Winner's Tilt can actually last from one session to the next. Have you ever won big, stopped playing, and then woke up at 1am and decided tp pick up where you left off only to lose big? Adrenaline rushes are addictive and can make you crave another one once one wears off. The next time you go on a heater and start feeling great about it take a moment and force yourself to calm down and get back to a normal playing emotion. Because the last thing you want to do is lose all your hard earned chips or cash because you're feeling too good.

I fully agree with saying that any player who can not control their impulses can certainly lose a lot of money by playing poker.
I usually have this control, when I realize that nothing is working, I just leave the game aside for hours or even days, so the variance and anxiety stop making pressure, and everything returns to normal, having control over itself is everything a player needs when he is in a poker tournament

you have to relise what mistake you made when you made it if its in the early satge of the tournament be more patiance if it is in the late part on the bubble you have to figure out did i have enough chips for big stack to fold if not nothing you could of down anyway but work on it it gets better

All good points made here. In my albeit limited experience, I've found that the best way to come to terms with the fact that variance/suckouts/bad beats are just part of the game, and to therefore avoid tilt, is to practice proper bankroll management. Much easier to get over a bad beat if it only costs you 1-2% of your roll.

I have found that the only thing that works for beating tilt is being able to walk away.
It's like an avalanche otherwise.

It takes some time, but really building the wisdom to just get up and go when things get out of hand is the only way to really beat tilt.

Other ways tend to require a lot of energy, which is great if you have it, or the time to build the habits. I recommend building up your Patience etc. But if you need a way right now, get up and walk away.
