These are 10 tips to take into account when playing poker especially in live games; where we are alert to all movements of your opponent; to know how to act in front of them.

I think the way to learn about Poker "tells" is look at what you do yourself. I think that we all tend to bet or raise into a pot, at a different rate? If the flop lands and you are holding a set, what do you do? Obviously, it all depends on your opposition and how you perceive their play, are they tight, will they bet at the pot etc, etc, The answer to this is not to go onto automatic pilot, but we all need that bit of thinking time. The simplest way to get around that process, is to take the same amount of time for every scenario, whether, checking, betting or re-raising or folding? Once you can control your own reaction time, then I believe that you can understand your opponents reaction time more.

Now is that a tell of mine? It might be, or then again it could be a double-bluff

Good luck

Live Poker I do not play, I can not comment.
Now, one of the most frequent ones I observed when I used 3% of my brain capacity of the total of 13% and currently with 0.9% of capacity. I was able to use this line of bet size very well. Time for action I think it's very relative, who can tell what the other is doing without seeing. I think the most appropriate of all is the size of the bet, because most of the time the players show their possible hands due to the size of the bet. When I get back to my 3% of my mental capacity, or even through great effort, I get at least 7% that maybe I'll learn other techniques or even invent one and come back here in this topic.

I think that it’s good to beware of of tells but at the same not to use them as exact information because as good as you think your read is, you’re working with limited information. Tells are more useful when you have played with your opponents regularly over many sessions or in many tournaments. I have found especially live at 1/2 - 1/3 or in weekly casino tournaments with buyins from $40 - $200 people tend to put too much emphasis on physical tells and don’t think about how the hand was played. I good example of this was last week I was playing 1/3 at a casino I haven’t been to for a little over a year so I definitely haven’t played enough with any of the players for them to have credible reads on me. So in a multi way pot that I flopped open ended, I check-called flop and turn, then lead about 75% pot on the river when I hit my straight and I got snap called by the aggressor in the hand because when I lead I was thinking about check raising river and even started to make a checking motion and the stopped and made the bet because I thought that a medium strength top pair might check back and wouldn’t call a check-raise. My opponent saw it as weakness and didn’t think about his decision snapped and mucked. If he had thought about his decision and had been paying attention during previous hands he may have came to a different conclusion, since about 30min earlier I had taken the exact same line in a very similar situation.

The link of this article is now in my poker favorites folder on Chrome. Very useful and complete. I play almost only online, but I will more attention on the other players in my next home game. Identifying Tells are a important skill in alive poker games for sure.

very good guide to detect certain game modes.
I also know about the movement of the legs and piez or the eyebrows and the forehead, the truth is that the subject is very broad and very good to know about this because it really helps us against less experienced players.
I do not have a preferred point since you can find everything

I prefer to play live poker I want my player to see reactions how he plays etc. but from the other it is easier to play Online Poker, you can do more things that you would not ever have to Live. such as playing in more than one tournament !!!
I finally agree with.

1. a quick bet is a medium hand,
2. a lot of time on the bet - a very strong hand or a bluff

I agree with rider, online tells are fairy tales, unless you know the opponent very well.
Today I had a very slow internetconnection, and even my preselected check/folds consumed a bit of my timebank. I got disconnected several times and I was asking myself, what tell could that give to my opponent? Multi-tabling? Watching movies besides? an old guy that just learned to use a mouse first day in his life? The truth is: I was washing dishes all day long, as I got my water connected the first time since 4 months. Who can read THAT???:aetsch:

Dont like any of the online tells . The amount of pocket Aces folded preflop because of distractions tells me timing means very little . The buzzer is my most used bet timer and raises [ or bluffs ] as they are made with any two cards to drag blinds can be predetermined because of closing cashes , increases in payouts or the best one FTs. Predetermined live bluffs can be used at the same stages and i like to do this without looking at my cards . I can then use any of the tells [ in fact all of the tells ] because i dont know if the flop has given me the nuts . So much easier live now as you dont have to watch what the dealers up to or watch every sneaky underhanded thief with their hand in your pocket . :vroam:. Ask DOYLE.

I think poker tells is a real science. As for me it`s very useful article and I knew a lot of new information (I`m amateur in live poker)
Thank you for info about immediate calls and bets! It`s time to refuse this bad habits)

excellent these tips and this great article, no doubt are details that constantly improve in the evolution of game, I had the opportunity to play my first live tournament in panama in 2011 and it was certainly a good experience and teaching, perfecting what I knew until that moment. I stay with several points of this great list, example number 5 eye contact, as well as number 7 because I study the part of personal language and is fascinating all this in live poker.

My preference and online, disconnected loosers and players annoy me, those who talk a lot in chat as well. I think that's why I do not like live chatting and little action. The worst disappointment is losing the hand AA x 72 I cry even today monster pot.

This is the best article I've ever met on the CC. Very useful information, be sure to re-read before playing real poker. Unfortunately I have nothing to add, because I almost do not play a live game.

I was a bit puzzled by the described procedure for determining a sincere smile. Can people really not recognize a fake?

I'm bad at figuring Timing Tells online. Every time a player uses an excessive amount of time, I think that someone is talking to him and thus distracting him from the game or he needs to immediately look for a rag to wipe the spilled tea.

Great to have a print out while watching reruns of world series . Easy to see if any of these tells are shown . The over chatty bluffer seems to be the one that pops up with amateurs .

ok reading the article well there are several good and bad points in my favor, because in some live tournaments I have been carried away by calling many hands as marginal as good, in the sense of cleaning the table or bluffing, but there to improve that point, with point 5 you always have to have contact with the visual players and see their gestures and reactions when they have good and bad cards, I am one of those who spend a lot of time watching in a tournament, and to finish point 8 of the article not all can hide when they have premium letters and in a tournament I left AA and I stopped seeing only the player and the cloth played through what he did until an all in ... and this article really has many teachings and it is not enough to read it once to memorize the good advice I think you always have to read it, so thank you I even printed it and translated it.

As someone who basically never plays live, the only tip from Zach that I can slightly apply is #3 (Immediate Calls).

I do watch a lot on live poker on TV and with the wsop coming up, I will practice picking up tells in case I ever do play live.

Very interesting article and all 10 tips are really working but to my mind the first step is not to learn these reads but to know how to diagnose it and then fully exploit. If you do it by yourself you dont need any books and articles and you are able to be more powerfull player with your own developing!

The tells are a pillar of information in the live game, they are there. Who does not interpret them loses advantages that others will have. However, online they do not fulfill such an important role. It can be argued that when a player thinks too much is because he has something, this is generally true only at low levels.

Not very often playing alive. But behavior depends on the personality or even their tactics and may be different for the players

Looking back at your cards after a flop all in the same suit....sure sign that you're looking for a card in that suit.

If everyone reads these kinds of articles about tells, don't the tells have less meaning because a player would want to feign exhibiting them to gain an advantage.
