hi I'm from Russia myself and I think that there are a lot of good poker players in Russia who make money with poker and live and do not deny themselves anything

Be a russian player doesn't mean that it's a maniac player or a crazy player. It's just their game style and we must respect it.

The thing with Russian players is I play a lot of them because the times I play in my time zone is usually when they play. That's literally all that's different about Russian players, and frankly I don't think you can discern anything about a player based on their stated nationality.

Russian players, online is online and much of it depends on the stakes your playing. Honestly the country or origin doesn't matter much but you do see specific styles from certain counties.

Why do we notice the Russians? The same reason we notice the Brazilians or the Brits. There's a lot of them. Like loads of them. If the US players returned*, we'd soon notice them because with such a huge player pool we're going find the entire gamut of playing styles and subsequent mistakes.

Does anyone really think there's a country out there whose players will just give us their chips or alternatively make the correct play and decisions every time.

If you're like me, you don't need to worry about players from any particular country. I have enough to worry about with regard to my all too often stupid donk plays that I'm prone to make.

(*Isn't going to happen. The US 1% - especially casino owners and their ilk - like to gut their own fish. They're keeping the US playing pool to themselves.)

i think they are just like any other poker player. they can be russian, american, european or latin american. there are the same type of players every where in the globe. that doesnt make them different. maybe because the country is larger you have more players from there. imagine china?

My stereotypical Russian player profile is that they are very aggressive and loose players. They go very easily all-in and many of them are just gamblers. Maybe because of this aggressiveness people may think Russians are good players, aggressive style is definitely good, but no if you are just gambling like most Russians I have met at the poker table.

And I have to disagree that it doesn't matter which country people are from. It matters a lot, I use a lot of psychological tells, so I can recognize that. The national personality of players really affects in a poker table, Russian are straightforward and confident people, you can sense that in a poker table, also they seem very impatient at the poker table, so that's their biggest leak, aggressiveness is totally good in right situations.

People keep calm. There are good and bad players and people in every country. In the game, not very smart youngsters are usually rude. There are those who, after retiring from the game, pursue their offenderuke::flute:

I don't think they very good just lucky a good player would not go all in on 73 74 52 64 and so on which i have seen them do a lot but the do get very lucky with those cards

It infuriates me too when players go all-in on 73 and similar cards. Maybe this is what they do in freerolls, where the price of victory is small?
Another reason I think is that there are 11 time zones in Russia! In my city, the CC freeroll starts at 11 PM and lasts several hours. It will end late at night and not everyone is ready to play all night, before work, for $ 5-10. And in half of Russia the tournament begins even later

Interesting thread of replies. Highs and lows.
On pokerstars, there ARE a lot of Russian players on there. As I mainly play tourneys and sitNgo's, these two types of games are not short of them.
I don't really notice much difference from the Belarus, Ukraine players as regards to style.
I think it's best to just play your own game, whoever is on your table and just know when to zig and not zag.

today at the US$0,55 BB I was playing a hand against a russian. I was with AA and he was with J9o. The flop was 7x8xAx. I 3bet, he calls. Turn: irrelevant card. I bet half of the bot and he CALLS. River: a freaking 10. Sometimes is so depressing playing against these type of player....

Depends... Russia is big country so they have big pool of players... Ofc that many from them are fishes, but there is a lot of good players too... I mean nationality doesn't mean a lot (except maybe temperament)

I don't see what quantity has got to do with quality, but you might have something and a point with the word temperament...

Since poker is an illustration of the theory of random coincidences, the quantity matters a lot more often than we would like.

That is true, but i was refering to why some members on here think that the way Russians play, is because there's a lot of them. In short, quantity of a nation doesn't mean no quality of play.

There is no vaccine for them. They are an infection which by their sheer numbers overwhelm and ruin tournaments.

My opinion is that there are many!

Among so many, someone always reaches the final table.

There are good players, there are bad players, and there are maiacs.

Others who are now reaching the final tables a lot are the Brazilians.

There are many Brazilian players but unlike the Russians they are better players.
