I am a chess player with an international FIDE rating of 2120. There is no equivalent term of 'tilt' in chess. Because, equivalent of bad beats don't exist in chess. There is something called oversight, where a player makes a mistake that isn't expected of his skill level. But, that is not bad beat.
Poker is far more emotionally demanding. Now, I am not stating with conviction that poker is tougher. High level poker is somewhat mechanical, like high level chess. In chess the best players rack their brains only during 5-6 positions in a 60 move game. Similarly, in poker the best players play on an average 20-30% of their hands and rack their brains in 3-4 hands. I am not too sure, as I am a beginner in poker.
In an any case, what is your opinion?
As chess, poker is a game of using the position on our favor. We have position in chess when we play with white pieces. When we play black we must expect or force our opponent to make a mistake because we are a move behind.
In chess, to have position we must fight for the center (d4, d5, e4 and e5) to occupy better space and try to trap our adversary.
In poker we must play in the CO, BTN, and BB x SB so we are last speaking thus having position and advantage that can be used in many forms, one of them is to control the size of the pot.
The fundamentals and basics of poker are very simple:
1) we must play having position
2) we must play against weaker opponents
And yes, poker is a far harder game than chess. In chess we can control our opponents and win GTO speaking, 99% of times if we know the themes such as tactics to sacrifice pieces, etc
Poker we can play GTO and be the best but we are not going to win most of times, even when we can choose our opponents wisely. It is impossible as we see many times, Villain has just two or one outs to the river and it hits and we lose.
Poker involves a serious mental discipline and psychological experience and self control.
