The problem with this particular thread is people simply talking past each other.

No one is denying the origins of poker as a gambling game. No one is claiming that for many, the only form of poker is one where money is wagered.

The issue is people ignoring huge numbers of people engage in playing poker with no money involved. The implication (repeatedly) is poker without a real gamble is not interesting or involving.

That is patently nonsense. My estimate would be a several million people a week play poker for no stakes (one international play/practice site alone has close to 1.5 million members- heaven knows how many play US sites).

It feels as though some of those who play strictly for money feel irritated by the fact others do not play for money - as though such people do not take the game seriously. They obviously do and in large numbers.

In fact I would not be surprised to find in any given week around the world, more people are playing poker with no stakes involved than are actually gambling for money.

No no no, there chips have a price, this price is time. How can you not understand, no one will give you 1 000 000 000 conditional chips for free. They must be earned. All these free chips are just given to people to ignite the excitement that they would have bought chips for real money.

They can bet money, they can bet some wish, but they clearly understand that if one of them wins, then the other one loses, and the one who will lose might have little bit hard feelings about it. So since both of them want to have fun without doing any damage to each other they can also just BET. One of them says "I bet that my team wins" the other one says "I bet that your team will lose, and my team will win". What is the value of placed bets? No value, it's just a bet, for fun. You can do many things for fun. SOme people watch TV for fun, others learn programming languages for fun, without any profit on their mind, just for educational purposes or to see where the truth is. Some people are walking their dog cause dog wants to pee or to poo... some other people are walking outside with their dogs for fun, just for the walk. Without a clear goal. It doesn't makes them stupid and it's not a waste of time, when people are spending their time doing something that is really important for them, then during rest hours they simply want to enjoy something else, for fun, let's say just to have a break from their main goals. This is why and how such games like poker can be played without value, even without chips at all, we can agree to see who will win during 3-5-10-20 deals, we don't need chips for that, we don't need to set the prize for the winner, no need to say I bet-fold-raise, we can just enjoy instant flop-turn-river-showdown without any bets at all. It's something like going fishing and releasing all caught fish back to the river or lake or ocean, or going fishing with no fishing rod just to observe how your friends are fishing. I already play poker without money but that way poker become a bingo. I think that poker need money, can be some cents but money is necessary.

Okay, frankly this gets tedious. You ask for peoples opinions but you do not want to hear them, so why start the thread in the first place?

Once again, I have no problem (does anyone?) or issue with anyone saying 'for me, poker is only real when it involves money'.

What I do object to is people declaring poker without money poker is not interesting/ involving/challenging/exciting...which it obviously is to millions people.

Poker does not exist in some world with unique conditions. It exists in the world where people compete- from playing countless ball games, to playing chess, to racing across oceans for no compensation. The vast majority by far compete on an amateur basis.

Who, at any point, has said casinos and tournaments should be exist without money? No one.

Well I play ah about 12 already home games, live also have played here in my town and online to 6 years old jah could crimp tournaments but most started by fictitious, and migrated to the real money games, poker game eh fascinating the more money the deicha even more fascinating.

it takes a lot of time for me, poker is running out for a family, there is less and less profit, I think about getting away from poker, but now it still brings additional income, throwing is not profitable yet, but on the edge

Without the excitement of winning or losing some money it would be just plain boring. My opinion. Imagine playing a tournament for hours to get nothing in the end? Or image not risking anything (would you still be playing it after first 10 minutes? or would you go all in on first A?).

Hi the All! I think the Poker is not only a game, but is a compressed model of Life... And historically got, in the basic our life builds, develops thanks to money. Hence, I think, without money the poker will lose the more part our great and many various emotions and feelings, for that we love so a Life, but means and a Poker!
