It is gambling, just like lottery tickets or counting cards at a blackjack table. Anything involving wagering money is gambling. Horse races, casino`s, even church bingo is friggin gambling. Some of it is accepted by society, some isn`t. If the government made money off internet poker, they would be advertising on prime time TV. If the government got a slice of the cash wagered on football every weekend, it would not be an issue at all. Its all about the money and wether Uncle Sam gets his share.

Is poker gambling? Well I guess that depends on how learned of a player you are. If your a newb with no clue other than what hands rank where then it's no better than a coin toss then yes it is gambling. However a learned player will be able to make table reads and know when he can bet into someone and turn the odds to HIS favor thus taking out of the realm of gambling and into the realm of skill. Much like fencing, chess or boxing there are faints and parrys and the outcome is determined upon the skill of the player. Opinions are like azzholes and everyone has one...this is just mine.

I guess I’ll always assumed that anything that involves wagering money an outcome, be it poker, sports, or you and your best friend betting on personal taco consumption, counts as gambling.

We did a eating match 2 with local food called frikandel its like a snack. Winner ate 11 (which is a lot). Is this gambling when you play for honor/status? I mean you can loose status/honor among peers right ;)?
