I think available information has gotten better? Imagine if Stu Unger, Johnny Moss and Amarillo Slim had the tools and information we have available to us? But the same can be said for everything right? If Muhammad Ali had been born 20 years later and had the head protection, there's always evolution.poker is no different.

If Ali would have been born 20 years later he would have had his ass kicked by Mike Tyson like everyone else...

Some things have changed and some have not over the last 10 ten years that I have played. If you play in a crowd of lemmings or if you play in a crowd of hyenas those same crowds existed and still exist when I first started. One big change is that there are more big money games these days.

A few things have changed ... for example, technology has made better and better game interfaces ... and has helped to speed up and offer more alternatives for withdrawals of money faster .... and with so much information on the internet ... the players are getting better ...!

Another reason I think poker has changed, is the many times the same person would win the world series of poker in the past. Now, I do not even see the same people at the final table of the world series.

I would say that poker has not changed much, they add updates to poker rooms and add new types of poker, and for me poker remains the same game I was learning to play!

I find it hard to judge. For only 3 and a half years I have been playing this game for real money and during this time I have not noticed any drastic changes !!!

Rec players have been changing in the last decade and they are more frequent and they are a lot of amateurs and not enough semi pros. I think if the ref players play in small tournaments at the casinos they would become better. I’ve been to the casino and I’ve noticed too many newbies and not enough people that know what they are doing

The game has changed drastically. Its popularity isn't at its peak and games are getting tougher.

I play poker only one and a year. And I can no doubt argue that over the past few months my game has improved significantly. I became more patient and thanks to this, I make more correct decisions.

The game itself doesn't change unless the rules were to change but I think people have developed different play styles and that has changed peoples perceptions of how the game has changed but the actual game of poker no.

The way i think about poker and my approach has changed for sure. It used to be poker but now its been broken down to math and player types. The poker software exists now also which tells you if someone folds a lot on the flop turn or river. During the boom there was many trying to play poker but but now a days most players kind of know what they are doing so it's a bit tougher.

Hello.
I play poker for only 10 months, so it is hard for me to say if such changes are present. But I can confidently say that my game has improved significantly.

Certainly. Rooms have become greedier, the players are stronger. There was a lot of poker software. Distribution began to contain more action, sometimes not very believable.

The game itself hasn't changed. What has changed are the players and how it's played. There is sooooo much more of a knowledge base now and soooo many more ways of gaining experience both online and live. Over the 20 or so years I have been playing, I have noticed a shift to math based play rather than "play the opponent" based play. Good players, imo, obviously embrace both approaches. But, before online poker the math skills of "most" players were virtually nil and they played more by feel and the opponent. Now I see people making decisions strictly on math based propositions regardless of opponents. I think the online game has changed since the Moneymaker days.....with all the online tools available, it's much harder than it used to be.

CHANGE

Change is part of the life of the planet. Poker has changed considerably from 10 or 20 years ago. Not the game itself but the vast amount of information available for people to use or ignore as they see fit. The question is "Is too much information bad or good?" But I guess for me until my mental capacity degrades from old age, if it ever does, I have noticed changes in many things poker related. One of the biggest changes is my selection of starting hands in relation to my seating position and the villains I face and amount of chips I hold. I'm not sure if its anything that can be learned from reading a book or watching poker training videos though.

I have seen a drastic change in poker, but I have a certain longevity that is not available to 95% of you. When I started playing poker the most popular game was 7 Card Stud and no limit 7 Card Stud was only played by the big boys. The only games I dared play in were limit games. By the way, my favorite game was 6 Card Stud not 7 Card Stud. Hold 'em was just getting started back then and not nearly as popular as 5 Card Draw, 5 Card Draw Low ball, 6 and 7 Card Stud and the hi/low variations of these. What do you see nowadays? Try to find a 6 Card Stud limit game anywhere on the planet. Yeah, poker has changed. My last comment is this, "If you like to play poker you had better learn to play PLO because in the next 5 years PLO will do exactly the same thing to Hold 'em as what Hold 'em did to those games mentioned above. Just sayin'.

I'm sure this is because of the large number of runners nowadays. The odds are far too great against someone. But there is that guy from last year or the year before that was winning many tournaments over a short time period. Not saying he is any "better" but he sure has had a good run.

That may be true, and my poker playing days run back to when Texas hold'em didn't exist that I knew of it was only pot limit Acey Duecy, limit 5 card draw, limit 7 card stud. As for PLO, I do find the game of Omaha enjoyable but don't really care for PLO, I like limit Hi-Lo and have enjoyed no-limit Hi-Lo online. Not much chance of seeing that become mainstream. One game we played a lot in my military years was Tonk ( or Tunk) Great game fast paced and pretty exciting and fun like Acey-Duecy very fun fast paced.

We also gambled on pitching Quarters to the line. Won $500 one night playing that, more then a months pay! lol.

Poker became very popular in the early 2000's acquiring a lot of new players.
TV coverage with easy online accessibility. The increased fish count made for some easy gains.
Growth has declined and the field has since matured. The average skillset has increased.
This makes profitability more harder in general.
