poker books and training are undoubtedly worth it, so long as you choose the proper material. It's kind of like asking if a golf instructor is worth it. If you choose a teacher who has you swinging the club like Happy Gilmore, then you're probably not going to be the next Tiger Woods.

For beginning level players, I'd recommend reading them in the order of ToP, ANLHE, and MoP. If you internalize the concepts in those 3 books, then you're going to be a poker god.
