poker books and training are undoubtedly worth it, so long as you choose the proper material. It's kind of like asking if a golf instructor is worth it. If you choose a teacher who has you swinging the club like Happy Gilmore, then you're probably not going to be the next Tiger Woods.

My top 3 poker book recommendations, in no particular order are
  • "The Theory of Poker" by David Sklansky
  • "The Mathematics of Poker" by Bill Chen and Jared Ankenman
  • "Applications of No-limit Hold'em" by Matthew Janda

For beginning level players, I'd recommend reading them in the order of ToP, ANLHE, and MoP. If you internalize the concepts in those 3 books, then you're going to be a poker god.

Most of the books won't teach you anything... well because you are human xD, but many of them has some advice and philosophy you can use to improve yourself and understanding about the game

My favourite one is about the 3 rules of

1. What do you think enemy has in his hands ?

2. What opponent thinks you have ?

3. What opponent thinks you think he has in his hands ?

When you learn the game, most of the poker is about psychology and excatly there books can help out
