It can become especially addictive when you seem to be getting so close to making some decent money. But again, it's important to set boundaries and goals.

Despite the fact that poker is a game based on mathematics and probability theory, no one denies the gambling component in it. Therefore, gambling addiction is also possible from sports poker. Gambling addiction is one of the names of gambling addiction, which is also called gambling addiction. This is a disease that needs treatment. And it is better not to let players who are prone to it at the tables - either online or offline. Gambling completely redraws the circle of your interests, rebuilding the picture of the world. No more meeting friends or dating girls. There is only one desire: to spend all your free time on a new hobby. You start spending all your free time on the game. This makes you a better player, but other aspects of your life suffer. The more time you spend on your hobby, the more you think about it. It gets to the point that before going to bed or in the morning, new ideas come into your head on how to beat a casino or bookmaker. This affects the general psychological state. You want to play again and again. Even losing the last chips (and understanding that this is enough for today), you can't help but continue to take money out of your pocket or make payments with a bank card. Most people fail to recoup in such situations, they only lose even more.

Poker can be addictive but not for everyone, there are strong people for whom excitement is relaxation.

Responsibility and commitment, there are spreadsheets, schedules, rules, limits, in short, everything you have in your power to keep things under control, while you are controlling losses and gains, I believe you will have a healthy life in the game.

I believe that the first step is to play as a hobby, not using monetary amounts that, when lost, will be missed.

Personally, I only play poker as a hobby, it wouldn't be difficult if I had to stay away from poker.
Now, when the person can't stay without playing, and stops doing other activities because of poker, I think it's better to seek help, so that this situation doesn't get worse.
Some people are just very addicted to gambling. Unfortunately, such people will not turn to specialists, it seems to me that their relatives should do this)

Well, I believe it's more about what in the game can get you addicted. Not really the poker, but maybe bluffing, or earning chips, or even the downswings... Everything can get you addicted actually lol

Poker is a form of gambling, gambling can stimulate the brain's rewards system, just like drugs can.

A few signs that you are addicted to poker.

  1. General irritability
  2. Tiredness due to late night poker games and staring at computer or phone screens for extended periods
  3. Lying about playing poker – concealing the amount played or lost
  4. Spending work time, family time and much of your free time playing poker
  5. Spending money needed for other things on playing poker
  6. Constantly feeling the need to play another hand of poker
  7. Feeling bad after playing poker but then going back to play again
  8. Feeling guilty for the family and free time spent playing poker but not stopping
  9. Playing with money you cannot afford to lose
  10. Getting in debt

Psychiatrists will tell you that poker is one of the hardest addictions to overcome and affects the same part of the brain that reacts to heroin or alcohol. In fact, alcohol use often goes hand in hand with poker. Gambling means that you're willing to risk something you value in the hope of getting something of even greater value. Gambling can stimulate the brain's reward system much like drugs or alcohol can, leading to addiction, poker does however have benefits for the brain…It strengthens your brain and shields your nerve cells. Playing poker can help to rewire your brain and help to create myelin for a longer run. When we perform any activity consistently, it leads to the creation of new neural pathways.

If you find that your swaying more towards a gambling addiction there are steps that you can take,

  1. Understand the Problem. You can't fix something that you don't understand. ...
  2. Join a Support Group. ...
  3. Avoid Temptation. ...
  4. Postpone Gambling. ...
  5. Find Alternatives to Gambling. ...
  6. Think About the Consequences. ...
  7. Seek Gambling Addiction Help.

Hope My post helps guide you in some small way 🙂

Much love
Danny

If you start to lose a lot of money, it's best to stop playing and not play angry.

I would say that poker is not an addiction, it's a great game and there's nothing addictive like other games of chance.

What do you think you can do to don't make it a bad habit?
I think taking a break more often should also help. You usually don't even notice that you have an addiction problem only when you're in the middle of it and take a break from time to time

Any activity that gives pleasure leads to addiction. Because I want to repeat it. It's even good food and drink. The problem with poker is that it is very addictive and requires investments. The higher the stakes, the more excitement.

Of course, we don't have to look far to see people who have lost everything it took a lifetime to build at the tables.

It is dangerous if there are no limits.

Definitely. Giving it more importance could make it addictive, so what I would recommend is to leave it in the background, we all have family, work or other things that may require more attention.

I agree and would add that especially family not only requires but also should deserve more attention.

Also could it be that players who have experienced a tilt phase are more susceptible to become addicted after "winning back the money"?

If you play the same tournament every day and one day you can't sit down to play at the usual time and you miss it, then yes, we are talking about an addiction. Once you get the taste of victory, it's very hard not to try to win again.
