Part of playing many games is not letting yourself get distracted by emotion.

Trash talk is "sticks and stones"

Use it to your advantage and/or ignore it. Why let them control your game?

I never seem to get tilted while playing to the point of feeling it necessary to "go off" on a fellow player. I seem to reserve my Jerkism, aka Doushlord-hood for our Mods when editing my threads, when they are just doing their respective jobs.

Go Figure

I disagree with BelgoSuisse, I have recently moved from cash games to playing exclusively MTT's and find the player far more friendly than cash games, but then again I only played at lower stakes so cannot comment on 200NL cos Iv never played that high sadly.

I've honestly yet to ever encounter a good player who berates other players at the table.

There's tons of kids playing online. Also, lots of really immature adults(?), along with a slew of socially, emotionally & mentally unhealthy individuals playing online pokerzz. Add in a bunch of ego-maniacs with inferiority complexes & it'll pretty well describe some of your table.

Picture little Jimmy who lives at the end of your street - - that pimply-faced kid who delivered you your newspaper last year. That's the player who's trash-talking you on your table. He's sitting downstairs in his Mommy's basement tellin' her he's playing his X-box but really he's playin' the online pokerzz & is watchin' porn on his Mom's computer. Right now he's typing in the chatbox on your table... yes he played that hand like shyt & got uber lucky. Maybe he doesn't even know it? Who cares? Why let it bug ya?
LOL

I have to say though, I have done it, I have called donk, stupid donk, etc, to a player after getting some bad beats in a row (different tournaments on the same day)... I guess it makes me feel better to let out some of the frustration, or at least I think it does.

Phil hellmuth. 8 Wsop braclets he is hardly a fish.
good point ^
I think you'll rarely see a good player on a 'cash' table ever berating a fish (which would seem pretty frik'n obvious), but on Tournament tables you do see it occassionally (unless like trollord said.. helmuth is a fish (I can think of lots of others)). it's kinda different when you're getting busted out of a tournament (not condoning it.. just sayin' it's different)

I never said phil hellmuth was a fish and he is far from it. In actual fact he is a massive shark of MTT poker.

The poor sportsmanship and unfavourable chat will never go away. Usually, when I get to a table, I wait to see which are the poor sports and proceed blocking their chat.

Phil Hellmuth is a great player but a poor sport at the same time..not always, but we all tend to see that side of him.

I like PokerOrifice's response and likely closer to the truth than we all realize.

Hellmuth is a very passionate player... Passion and dedication is what has allowed him to win 12 bracelets. If you do not have that kind of ambition in what you do or what you are trying to accomplish you will never succeed.

Best way to deal with trash talk when playing on line is to keep quiet. What is the point in getting involved with a faceless idiot who almost certainly would not have the balls to talk the talk if it was a live game. Just switch their chat off and chill.
