Once upon a time I fixed computers for a living. I was very good., Fast and accurate about diagnosis. I seldom missed.
Then I ran into a head scratcher. Every now and then this one particular machine would just do a wobble. On the display, it would be sort of like when you or I get one of those uncontrollable shivers that lasts only a few seconds. Disconcerting, as you can imagine, to the operator.
Over the course of a week I had replaced everything (except the Bakelite like frame) in the machine, and nothing changed. I had to bring in the big guns. Guys who the company thought were better than me.
One morning we spent several hours trying to figure things out, no joy. Come lunch time, and I was getting hungry. The other guy didn't want to move, while I went to the door and was trying to coax him to break, eat, and think it all over.. I had the office door open, then the wobble happened, Outside the office door, the elevator door opened. EUREKA!
Case in point of sometimes having to get lucky to let your skills prevail.
For those not electrically/electronically savvy, turns out the elevator in question was next to the wall where that computer was. We only had to move the computer to the other side of the room to fix the problem. .We notified the building maintenance people who got to the elevator people who ended up determining there was a problem with a big motor on that particular elevator car.
