Well I believe that you are not rich but you can win a lot, even here on cardchat and just not wanting to win everything at once, there are many players who win a little and then goes up the limit after losing everything

it is wonderful to read the responses, most tell you sure, you can win alot, it's easy. 1 even says he could be very profitable , he just does NOT want to. LOL. Now you see why poker will always be a wonderful dream. What is the saying? A chip and a chair and you could win a bracelet on TV and be famous.

Yes, it is ALL possible. The truth as a few have pointed out, is it will be very difficult to win enough money to consider it much or enough. People who actually win over a long term in poker have to study hard and long and then they have to play hard and long. IF you are young and you LOVE poker, I say go for it, but don't think it is the easy way to earn money. IF you have a real job, do you want to take 30-50% of your pay and "invest" in poker tournaments that you will likely be the worst player ?? If not and you want to play stakes that won't hurt, then your chance of winning goes up, BUT the amount you win comes way down.

My only advice is to start playing and only you will find the answer if poker is what you want. Good Luck in ALL you do

At the moment, I have entered a deposit of $ 5 and withdrawn $ 0. Unfortunately my progress is not as good as I would like.

money

I can not say much, however, you might get some beginner's luck and win jackpots over night but I don't think it's getting a huge or permanent win, I believe that that gonna takes more time to become a winning poker player and take advantage from your money in life. I think in the first steps making money just enough to spend your month would be sufficient

Depends if you're playing cash games or tournaments too. If you master MTT/SnG's you can make a lot, cash games are actual gambling though and I don't recommend starting out there.

I don't know about stable earnings, but even an amateur can break the jackpot without investing money, at least pokerstars provides a lot of opportunities in the form of free freerolls for tournaments with a good prize pool.

I do believe that a recreational player can win something big, but whether he manages to remain successful depends on how well he handles his bankroll. bankroll management is the be-all and end-all of playing poker. And then of course there is also the knowledge that you have. A hobby player only plays poker for fun, but that doesn't mean that he has no idea how to play poker, so it is quite possible that he will also make a big catch at poker. But as was said before, it all depends on what he has already learned and how he uses his knowledge. good luck at the tables

Hello there, you can earn money from poker TOTALLY with no risk ....from freerolls like Cardschat you can earn 10 or 20 $ and then enter a tournament. So with a zero risk you can earn real money .

I believe that there are a lot of recreational players that are good and make a good profit. I tend to sharkscope some players I meet while on freerolls or micros and some have a very positive history (of course Im not sure) it seems (low volume, keeping it up and never going below 0 on the line).

I believe that is how recreational players who treat their bankroll with care always profit in the long term if study and strategy is applied.

I was talking to a friend these days, when he asked me why I dont invest more in poker (I play only micros and freerolls, but I am putting more study than play nowadays). I am just having fun, not trying to prove anything to anyone but myself and taking it like a "levels game" make me stay where I am until I beat most of the field. I once heard someone saying that poker for some players is like Mario, and you go up in stakes as you are winning/profitable.

I find it fun, and it makes me not rush on my journey.

Now I have a ROI between 6% and 7%, so at least $100 per month.

Greetings, I think that playing at the micro limits is difficult to get a large sum.
If you go up and play slightly more expensive tournaments, you may one day make good money.
But as I read in a previous comment, there are a lot of profitable jobs.
I only see poker as fun.
my stage of being world champion was left behind hahaha

I am reminded of the age old riddle:
How far can you walk into a forest?
Answer: Halfway. After that, you are walking OUT of the forest.

With this in mind, the answer to the question as to how much money can you make as an amateur player is, HALF of your income. More than that and you have flipped it around: poker is your profession and everything else is a hobby.

I think it depends on how much time you devote to the game. And what does big money mean to you? $ 100 or $ 1000? And also how often you analyze your own mistakes and giveaways. My opinion is that an amateur is able to earn 300-400 dollars a month, with the right approach.

I am a recreational player and I am happy not to lose too much, but I know some recreational players who hit it big time, so sometimes they earn quite a bit but it's not as consistent like for pros.

how much do you think you can earn playing non-professional poker?can a newcomer to the game win a large sum?

It depends on both the skill and the bankroll. If you are skilled and can afford large buy in tournaments or cash games - then you can expect the same hourly rate/ROI as a professional of similar skill.

According to BlackRain,

Winning poker players at low stakes will make between $10 and $20 an hour. Winning poker players at mid stakes will make between $50 and $300 an hour. Winning high stakes poker players will make $500 an hour, $1000 an hour or more.

Also further down,

NL2 - $4 an hour

NL5 - $7 an hour

NL10 - $10 an hour

NL25 - $18 an hour

NL50 - $30 an hour

NL100 - $50 an hour

$1/$2 live - $20 an hour

$2/$5 live - $50 an hour

How much money did Chris Moneymaker make? The sky is really the limit, just depends on how much effort you are willing to put in.

I'm not definitely sure how much money can be won playing recreationally because I'm still figuring that out. When I start winning money regularly I'm going to take those winnings and buy in for a Big stake, so when that happens I'll be back to let you know how much I've won as a recreational player.
