My family support me in everything I do...
But my online poker for them is like playing games on facebook couple times a week (not playing poker for living)...so, when I win some big money one day, they gonna see that I'm not kidding :)

They find it interesting, and some of the family are playing poker too! So I have a few people who can talk with me about poker and can exchange views and experiences about poker!

I like to play poker, my family does not like it very much, they think it's a waste of time, that I should try hard and do something that has a financial return.

In their view I should kill myself to work, but they have never planned themselves for the future, they are not to save or invest, and I have this vision, and I know how to manage better what I have.

My girlfriend does not like to play, she says that the game is not for her, but she does not put obstacles in my way, so much so that some of my best results were with her around, if anyone in my family is close they always gets something to do and end up taking my attention and making me lose.

At the end of the year I will be getting married and I will be able to play with more dedication, I will not make a very large volume of play, but I will try to get some profit to create a good bankroll.

no support, criticize me. There is no one in my town who plays, I have to go to play live. But it's nothing to discourage me.

Great question!

My wife is sort of OK, but only because we have a mutual agreement that I only play a live tournament once a month (unless if have built up a bankroll), and my online poker is based on no deposits.

Of course she is happy when I win, but does not understand why if "I am so good", why can't I win everytime I play. I try and explain how I cash in 18.9% of the live tournaments I play, and that this is actually quite good. But she can't relate to this.

I have tried to get her involved, just to help her understand better, and she just isn't interested. I am very envious of those who have a significant other who also plays. I would find it very valuable to have her play, even if she loses, just so she would have a better understanding. She knows how to play as we have played with friends, but she just hates to lose so bad that she can't get past the variance.

after I started to play poker I became an antisocial, the weekends is when the best tournaments take place so I decided to leave the family parties a little aside, my family is very big, if I go to a party and not another, the relatives that I'm not at the party will complain ... so I decided not to go to family parties anymore while I'm focused on my poker games ... my family criticizes me, saying that now I only think of poker, I do not I'm not talking about this because of poker I stopped to drink beer, which is something I like the most in life

Family and poker

I believe that poker has many different roles in many very different lives . It can be someone's downfall and it can be someone's life . It can be recreational or done as a profession . One more thing I will say I know for sure is that it doesn't matter what your parents views on poker are . It's all about how you perceive poker and the approach you would like to take to the game . Seeing poker from there perspective should also set of a red flag
in your own mind because 92-95% of the time your going to be a losing player . So thank mom and dad or prove them wrong . The main issue with this question is that it makes me think you are looking for reassurance and a blessing from your parents and that's anti rebel poker if you ask me ;) . Unless you were just curious then it's a fine discussion lol

My parents do not deal very well with my choice and dedication to poker, even if I'm not a professional, as I spend a good part of my days on gambling issues. Despite this, today they deal better with this situation, since I always make them aware of my positive results, but they still have a bit of prejudice, even as a cultural factor. I am Brazilian and here poker has gained a lot of strength, but many still see the game as something addictive in which who is involved can lose everything; do not understand the logic that good results will only come with much study, effort and dedication. On the other hand my wife supports me quite even knowing absolutely nothing about the game. I've tried to teach her the basics, but she says she does not have "patience" for card games! hahahaha The good thing is that her support and the tranquility I have to play in my spare time allows me to start my sessions always calm and focused.

How can they support if they dont understand

My family doesnt understand what poker Is, especially Holdem they think it's a roll of a dice, you always lose they think.
I dont know how to explain so i am just trying to not play when they are around and it Is difficult
I hope they will realize one day that this Is a skillful game in which you can win big money but lose some too if you arent careful
It Is a new_age sport :D:D:)

I have a deal with my wife that she takes half of the winnings - that's why he lets me play :). The problem starts in the downswing period and continues to the first deep run :).

No, they doesn't. Do you really need any support? If you want to be strong, you have to fight alone. ;)

It is already said a few times and same goes for me: My family members think of playing poker as being gambling, which is a reason to not support it.

I think in general people don't know how the game is different from other casino games. You get questions like: nice win, but how much did you put in?

The real question is: do you mind that people see you as a gambler when they know you are playing poker?

They don’t care how I spend my evenings playing, if I manage to win a good amount of money then I can boast that I’m not wasting my time.
