What do you prefer? Where do you score better results? I just started playing online a few months ago and was wondering if I wasn't the only one who has problems in deciding what to play. Actually I prefer playing cash game but my results in tournaments and sit go's are way better.

prefer tourneys

I prefer tourneys because online sites have the tendency to have alot of "action flops" in ring games driving up pots. they get theres off the top in tourneys and I have found over the long hall I do better there.

Tourney's definately. I find them more exciting to do, although I would say I am best at Sng's. I do not like NLHE cash game as I find them a little dull for some reason. Limit games I dont mind though.

STOP WITH THE "online poker IS RIGGED" !!!!!

I have seen AA vs AA with one getting a flush
I have seen trips beaten by straights
I have seen (actually beat someone) with full house vs full house
I have seen trips over trips
runner runner straights
runner runner flushes
2 outers, four outer all coming on the river

This is over two 6 hour sessions at a LIVE CASINO

Bad beats do not happen more frequently online than they do live.

I think cash games take more skill than sng or touny's, although you can make a major score (like 400x buy in) in a tourny.

I started as a complete donk and was still able to win an occasional sng. It took a lot more to become break even at cash, let alone profitable.

I like MTT better then ring and have better results there, but i also belive its harder to be a good ring player then it is to get good results at STT/MTT.
Also the MTT varience is so much worse then ring varience

I find that with Cash games, you have to be extremely well diciplined. Cash games do not really have an end, they have the potential to go on forever and a lot of players find that they keep playing with no real goal or end in sight and they end up doing there money.

SNG and Tourneys overcome this problem. Your goal in a SNG or Tourney is to be the last man standing, that is it. Once its over, it is over, you dont have to ask yourself at what stage do you stop.

Tournaments would have to be the better of the 2

Cash games are kind of boring playing the same people over and over

Tournaments are fun because u get to see how good u are against so many people

Also it is fun making final tables in Tournaments...Cash games u just keep playing in the same table with same people

I prefer tournaments, especially $added or guaranteed with fewer entants than the required to reach Guaranteed amount. This gives you better odds on your money.

I do prefer tournaments. Its just fun to see how good everyone is doing and how much theyll get paid for their efforts. In other hand... I like the idea of playing (grinding) ring games to earn money (lets say something like .25/.50 to earn 50$ in couple hours) then u can play like 1 x 24+2 tourney. If u don't get to the money u can go back to grind more money for tourneys.

Assuming we're talking about NLHE, I prefer cash games because there's more "play" and skill involved. There's just no substitute for having your bet represent actual money instead of tournament chips. This isn't meant to say that there's no "play" or skill involved in tournament play -- there definitely is a lot of that -- it's just that to me tournament play can seem almost mechanical at times.

It definitely takes two different skill sets to play tournaments and cash games. That's why I admire Phil Ivey so much -- he's one of the few players who consistently crushes both tournaments and cash games.

That is normal, in cash games for every little mistake you have to pay for it, because you play hand for hand. In tournaments a mistake can be, but must not be a big problem, so you must not pay for every little mistake and you come nevertheless to the higher places when the average-hands are good.

Have a good time and good luck,

I prefer tournaments, but too I play in cash tables; sit and go I have great performance, in freerolls too I have top results.
I still have problems with cash games; I have that improve in cash tables.

At the moment, I'm enjoying S&G's more than ring games. I like the kill or be killed aspect of the game. There's an excitement to the Russian roulette situations that inevitably come up at the end of the tournament.

But for me, ring games are where the money is at. You don't need to make *anybody* bust to make money, so each move is about maximizing your return and not about engaging in risky behavior simply to knock someone out.
With no antes and the blinds always remaining tiny compared to your stack size, you're never in "I have to shove with any two cards in an unchallenged pot" situations. And you never fold a good hand to make it past the bubble; every hand is played to its full potential.
Also, with rings you get to pick where who you sit with, and where you sit. You're never forced to move so you maintain your image and reads. You can also rebuy if you get felted, maintaining your reads/image/position.

So basically, you have a lot more to work with in a ring game, which will increase any skill advantage that you have over your opposition.

Cash Games...

I like Cash Games better... because there are not raising blinds, no time pressure, so you can take your time on your hands... you can play a lot more tighter... and for me, these is where I would make more money...

then, after I won at the cash games.... a small percentage of those wins.... I could then use them to enter a sit-n-go or Tournament... I do well, on the sit-n-go's, but those tournaments do get pretty big...

Good Luck at the Tables

I prefer tournaments over cash tables. I love the aspect of the blinds increasing and having to change my game as time passes. Also the fact that it reminds me of being in a race and that I want to finish first.

I am definitely more wired for tourney play. That's where I do my best, but Ive been known to blow a few freeroll winnings on some cash play as well. I tend to snowball more (either way) in cash play, but Im more consistent in tourney.

I hated the variance of SnGs, and to be honest I dont think I was a particulary great player. MTTs im a bit better at but only becasue im very patient whereas alot of people get bored after 2 hours. Ring games are where the real money is for me though. I love taking someones stack and the immediate effect on the BR it has. I also find it easier to plan my steps up the 'Poker Ladder' when playing ring, I can see where i want to be at and how to get there.

Depends on the game, I prefer tournaments when playing NL Holdem, but cash games when it comes to the HORSE games, especially Omaha 8 and Stud 8.

I am a Tournament player. I do play in a lot of cash games, but usually only while I am waiting to the start of the tournament. However, I have yet to play in online cash games, being an american player being able to get my cash from the table to my wallet is always a concern.

I usually go to cash games to build up enough $ again to hit the sng. Although after a big tourney win I have been known to lose my wad at a big limit table.
