It Happens

I had a very similar situation happen to me...unfortunately I was 3 handed...Bottom line is it sucks but it happens. Some people would call it a mis-deal, and most floors will muck your hand and play it out.

Since this happened,in tourneys I always keep my hand on my cards when the dealer is making his/her way around to me. I never had a problem like this in a cash game and I haven't been at any tables where this is an issue in cash.

Just remember in a tourney keep your eyes on the dealer and your cards.

I believe it only depends where you lay down your cards. If you put them in front, crossing the line which is a border from players space and center of the table then the ruling was fine but if your cards were in players space the ruling was bad, that's how I see it.

Some card rooms may have rules to that effect, but in general it doesn't matter - if you fail to protect your hand then you have no recourse if it gets mucked, accidentally or otherwise, regardless of whether it was in "player space" or not.

i don't even know why you even need a protector IMO. I take a quick look as i'm being dealt and commit them to memory so i can keep my eyes on the player. I don't need to look at them again..i just put a couple of chips from my stack on them. I see people sit at the tables with all kinds of fancy protectors and i think it's just silly

it is really unfair! the pot should have been splited, in the worst case scenario, but not offered to one player only. you didn't mucked the cards, so it wasn't fair the decision. strange situation. dye with the justice by you side. hmm! smells like a dirty pact betwen the dealer and the villain!

ive seen similar situations

I was at a casino in Buffalo Ny all day 3am slows around and i find myself at 2-5Nln with a stack full of empty vodka cranberry soda cups piled 12 or so high (cause they have weak drinks.) This older man who has had plenty to drink also calls the preflop raise from the guy in his mid 20s early 30's there was a bet on the flop and when the turn came there was only them left in the pot. After the agressive raise and faster call ending with the older man standing up and spinning his cards down from his hand to the table in anxiousness like a little kid wanting to show off his new video games to his friends. The mans cards start mythodicly continue to slid toward the pilr of chips and or muck in center, it was like an air hockey table i was watching. Anyways, they mucked his hand needless to say was escorted out seconds after the floor got to the table. I dont agree with this but the rules are to be followed so everyone has the same chance as everyone else. I am new here to cardschat i posted my intro thread a few days ago. Good Luck everyone dont be strangers!!

So his cards were face up when the hit the muck? If that's the case it should make it really easy to get them back, and I'd think that's what the floor should do. It seems incredibly unlikely that he meant to fold them based on the action. Though to be safe, the right thing to do would to have not thrown them around in the first place...

I use a chess piece, a pawn. Since it is wood and weighs almost nothing, after reading this post, maybe I will join you in the 100lb barbell idea....

Sitting directlly accross from the dealer at Jacksonville poker room I flopped the nut full house and after a raise and re-raise I pushed all in. Everyone was throwing in their cards and the dealer was grabing them all. He accidentally grabbed mine and mucked them in the middle of the pile. After it happened the last guy with cards called. I was forced to put in all my chips with no cards because I had cards at the time my all in bet was placed. The other guy had a flush draw and doubled up with Q high. With my tiny remaining stack I busted out the next hand. The dealer did apologize to me but it cost me my 100 dollar buy in and I was doing well towards cashing. I now protect my cards with a heavy marathon medal.

I don't understand how the girl in the video took that. I'd probably rage and flip the table over then get my @55 kicked out lol
