You really opened up my leak in poker.
I had a small
bankroll of about $20 and decided to play .10 tournaments until I go to the point where I can move up in stakes. Eventually, I got impatient and decided to go to the cash games and play for $1.00 at a time. I blew my entire bankroll on cash tables.
When I looked back at the records, if I was playing only tournaments I would be at about $30+ bucks running positively.
Cash games is my leak. I know it and still lack the discipline to stay off the tables. Like you, I have tournament strategy down, although I need to run deep more often. I usually barely make it into the money. However, I have landed a first, second and a few third and fourth places to keep me running in the plus.
I have gone back to play freerolls until I build my bankroll as penance. I will not be depositing any money into
pokerstars again. I am really mad at myself - and based on my stats, trips are the
hands that get the better of me - those sneaky pocket pairs that hit on the flop. They really put the hurt on me with those.
Well, I will nurse my wounds and start over. But definitely prefer tournaments, since there is a cap on your loss. I find ring games more exciting and zoom quite the rush but will stay clear of them for now!
