I think you should not put caps on when to withdraw from a table because if you are in the table and your game flows in a very good way for you to leave the table if they win although it should exits in case where simply your game does not flow Retire changing table and the rest stay on a table as you can if you're wringing your opponents has

Should leave the table when you see that tired and the game starts to suffer from this, and of course when tilting.

For myself, this question comes down to psychology and mental mindset. You can always plan to play for a certain length of time, have a win amount or lose amount set, go by how the table is playing(soft or difficult) etc..but for me no matter what I plan going in, if I begin to feel like I am not playing my best game or if I am playing very well, I change plans accordingly. I have doubled up playing live in the first hour an simply walked out after that even though I had planned to play for several hours. Your mental state and how you feel emotionally is the most important indicator of what to do(stay or leave).

If you're playing good ...meaning making good decisions at the table you should keep on playing regardless of how much your winning or losing ! When you start playing bad is when you should leave !

Deciding when to leave

Ok first my bad habit.... I usually get up good then as the night goes on I seem to hate to leave the game if its still going. Then toward the end of the night everyone agrees to leave at a time 3 or 4 am so then I wanna stick around to then and end up getting tired mentally and make a mistake and lose most if not all my profit.

I've tried putting limits like it I lose 50 bucks I'll head home and they seem to realize it and bet over the amount(so I'll fold the hand or go on tilt and stay to try and get it back)

I've tried setting a time 30 more mins then I'll leave and that one last hand always seems to be monster over monster or a major suck out(neither in my favor)

Any suggestions or is it just my addiction to gambling I need to gain control of?

These are Home games BTW not casinos(never have the problem there)

Hi KagedKronyc and welcome to Cardschat. and the best place to get all the answers you need for any questions you may have. The answer you need for your question is one you have already answered for yourself. Being tired is not a good time to be playing poker because you can't focus on the game. You also said you went on tilt at the same time. That is not a good time to play either You know what the problem is, so what are you going to do about it? I knew what several of my problems were,so I started asking question about why I kept on doing the same things over and over and getting the same results. And I asked what I could do about fixing the problem. I got a lot of good advice and I used it without questioning it even though at times I didn't want to hear it. I'm sure a lot of the answers you will get first is that you are not in control of yourself and until you are things will stay the same. Set you some rules and go by them no matter what, and when you do, you will see a big difference in a short time, but that's not even close to fixing a problem but it's a good start. Learning the game and all that comes with it, takes a lot of time, so don't get in a hurry GL to you

I would try to stay in the game as long as you are running good & the table is still good. When I say the table is good I mean that there are still plenty of fish at the table where U can get their chips easily.

You have identified that you get tired mentally as the game goes on & start making mistakes. That is good that you can identify your problem, but identifying the problem & doing nothing to fix that said problem means it will still be a problem. If you find yourself mentally tired then do 1 of 2 things. Either leave the table the very next hand & maybe do something else for 15 minutes or leave the table the very next hand & live to fight/play poker another day.

Putting stop losses on yourself is a good thing, however it seems you might be telling your friends how much you are willing to lose & they are taking advantage of that. Let's say the game is $.25/.50 so max buy-in should be $50. I would have a stop loss at a maximum of 3 total buy-ins so $150.00 I have seen people lose their entire bankroll in one night, because they didn't know when to stop so PLEASE don't let that be you.

I think best time to leave is when you triple up. Table Selection covers spending some time choosing the best available table before you start to play. This has obvious benefits, by finding the worst opponents your win rate will improve, and is usually done by comparing ‘percent seeing flop’ and ‘average pot size’ figures... basically table selection finds the best games to increase the profitability of your poker.

I play at a table so far I play plus, usually so far I do not increase an initial stack by 2-3 times I do not leave because of a table. Playing in кеш it is not difficult to do it, the minimum of risk and expectation of a good hand usually leads to plus game, sometimes of course it is necessary to go to a bluff that too brings in me the income. But if the initial stack has gone to minus by 1.5 - 2 times I change a table, or I finish and I go to have a rest because the most dangerous when you gets in tilt it to try to return everything back very strongly risking and because of it you loses the bankroll.

Play til I double up or go broke at the casino.

Online i'll play for 1hr 30mins every session start-finish. Depending how good I'm winning is if i choose to play a 2nd session that day.

For me not depends from the winning. Usually i play 1-1.5 hour if i feel tired, i just leave the tables, but if i lose more than 3BB (after 10min played or 1 hour) i close the poker client and i start reading or a movie.
You have to check time by time how strong you are mentali. If you can concentrate anought just leave and you get back to tables later after you are rested.

I leave cash table when l crossed limits. Every time when l play poker on cash tables l post some limits. When l crossed this limits l leave tables. This is one reason why l left some tables. Other reasons can be different. Sometimes when l lose my money and can not win any hand l just make a break. This break can be 10 or 20 min and come back. Many reasons exist why some poker player left tables and this depends from player to player.

Play depending on how well you run.
If you win a few hands that's good, it means you are doing well, so why wouldn't you continue to play and earn more money.
Also if you find yourself in bad situations and you get frustrated, let me repeat, if you get FRUSTRATED, then leave, frustration is your worst enemy in poker, that makes your game really weak.
If you win 10$ that doesn't mean you should leave. If you have a good run, go ahead and keep playing. Adapt your strategy for a deeper stack and that's all.

Speaking about time, if you plan on grinding hard all day, a pause of 10-15 minutes or even more is welcomed between every hour of playing.

Nothing worse annoying/ bad etiquette than to hit and run a table. I would set yourself a time limit of at least an hour or more.

Agreed. However, if you win big (live) in a short time and need to go 'elsewhere' for some reason, it's generally good etiquette to announce that you need to leave when the button gets to you (or one full revolution). Most players can deal with that.

normaly if i lose my intial buy-in at rng table i either move to new table or just stop for a bit-i agree about watching others at table if they jump roght in or wait for bb to come round-not so much about the player names-i think judging someone based on there name might not be true at times-where i play on carbon or blackchip my name there is mentalatack-that name could be fishy i guess and judging from my play rightly so-the other tips are good ones so ty for the post

I think the best time to leave is when you start loosing/ stop winning. Me personally stay at a table unless there is somebody who is clearly a better player. If there is somebody whose money I can easily win, I just stay.

This is big mistake to all player.
You should play for time/hands not just win 2stack on left the table .

-players joining and paying a BB instead of waiting the BB coming to them.
-players not topping up
<Snip>
Hmm, I do both of these.
Could you explain why either/both could indicate a bad player.

I pay a BB probably because I would otherwise have to wait a few hands before getting to play. Maybe I need something to think about on this point.

I never auto top up. I notice players who's balance is always $10 on a $.05/.10 table. Oddly I join with the minimum for a table, so I'd join with $5, but i am a bit odd. By not topping up I can keep a better check on my winnings or losses.

And related to the OP's question, that way I find it simpler to decide when to leave a table. I aim, or am currently aiming for x2 or x3 my original buy-in. So on the above table I'd start thinking about leaving after $10. If it continued to build then I would aim for $15 but bail if it dropped to $10 or thereabouts. This goes up in $5 increments with the bail out point also increasing.

It's actually been a while since I've played many cash games and back then I would play too long and either a loss of concentration or a long dry spell would see me mostly losing most or all of my buy-in. What I should have done was bail out and take a break.

Nonsense surely. It's not a Friday night game with the family. Isn't the objective of poker to win money/chips and leave with them.

If I have joined a table and in 20 minutes or so I am x4 my buy-in am I really expected to play another 10 minutes so the other players feel better before I leave? Even if I fold every hand I will still be throwing money away when I get hit by the blinds.

When I have decided it's time to leave, hopefully with a bigger bankroll, I have sometimes waited till I was next for the big blind and then bailed. A few hands at best.

(Not sure how to get both quotes in)

This reads better to me in that playing or completing a revolution before exiting is good etiquette. GoldCaps mention of an hour first read to me that you should stay at the table for a defined time even if you have won and wanted to leave.

(I shouldn't stay up so late and read this stuff tired)

Could be after the first hand

If you sit down in a live cash game and get involved in a huge pot and win say 300 bucks then it's time to go home. There is no sense in sitting it out and using patience. Best case scenario after 2 hours some blind rotations you might win another 125 or so then again you could go broke so it's pointless. If you've felt the table out and feel that they will stay for the long haul are weak calling stations and your up only 40 bucks then keep grinding it out until your profit margin is plentiful because even stations will hit their cards eventually.

From what I have noticed if you're on a table and you're winning money , some or a lot ( because you're very good player or you have edge or the others are bad players or as some would say your seat is rigged to win :D ) there is absolutely no reason to abandon your post . Stay , be patient if you suddenly start to lose some of your profits and wait .You have chosen a table that has a lot of fishes , with satisfying pot size every hand ,you have tested these opponents , it's not a great idea to leave it and start again from the beginning the ssame search for another table .If you lose more than half of your profits and its not because of bud luck then leave . If you don't lose you stay for as long as it takes .
From what I 've seen ,some players follow your tactic , when they double their stack they leave , but most stay , but if a player wins a lot then all the other players of the table leave one by one (I have seen it on microstakes many times;) ) So if you have profit stay and expect the others to leave not you haha .
