What I've learned from online poker is that I really, really needed this forum...my online game has improved tremendously since I joined CC last month...very grateful I stumbled into it (googling for reviews on Spade Club of all things ).

I had joined some other poker forums but only lurked, did not participate...CC just 'felt' more friendly to me (& it is! :D). I am learning so many, many things here...& someday I may even be dangerous (& no longer a nit :p).

Very good advice in this thread.
My favorite is laying down big hands though- its very important and hard to do

What have you learned playing poker on-line?

Focus, focus, focus. When I'm focused on the game, I win. When I'm not, I lose. Oh, and that I'm easily distracted and lose focus a lot! :)

Distractions

Thanks to all of the reply's, I have realized that I have way too many distractions when I am playing. The last two times I played with no distractions, I have done well.

My son turns 2 in a month, he is a distraction to say the least. Last night he was in bed early and I ended up 2nd out of 160.

The last time he did that, ended up final table as well making a decent cut.

Looks like I need to grind when the time is right, stop betting on sports and only play when poker has my undevided attention

I've confirmed for myself, that the table image is very important, especially when you are in position!

I've learned that live365.com classic country radio stations go sickly with poker. I never really listened to country ever, till recently. I can listen to these honky-tonk songs hour on end. Whereas music like "RiDe ThE LIGHTNING"!!!! might make me crazy before the tournament is over (6+ hour tournaments). :deal:

I've also learned that you can try to play with a person's mind but sometimes they have the nuts and just won't fold!

There are stupid players at every level. If you don't learn your opponents tendencies before you make a move on them, it's my own fault....

I always try to blame the donks, but can't do that. I forget that I want donks at my table every day.

Well said. I'll often scratch my head and wonder how anyone could of made such a play. But I also learned taking a notes of that play in player notes can be of use sometime in the future.

Ive also found that only playin 1 game and concentrating on it is better than multi tabling and not paying attention to how the players are playing at your table. You are also correct about the attitude and the power of positive thinkin!!!!

What have you learned playing poker online?

Not to play poker online.

That's my lesson learned. I uninstalled all my online pokers today. Enough of that for me. I've got a fish-filled cash game where I even outplay the sharks, every night. I don't need to worry about blowing my money in a heartbeat to some stonewall who just sat quietly and waited till he had AA over my KK or KK over my QQ.

Cntryboys, that is just your personal preference. Many people have said that having two or three tables open and just focusing on poker is way better for them than playing one table, getting distracted and then ending up watching porn in between turns.

Online poker is very convienent. I agree that once you loose the enjoyment of playing online...you should take a break. I take breaks all the freakin time...last break I took was 4 months!!! :-D And now I'm back in it and loving it! Just gotta take breaks every now and then and you will be OK.

I learned the hard way.. When I first started playing online that:

1/2 online is NOT the same thing as 1/2 live. LOL

I think the quality of play is MUCH better at 1/2 online..

That people say things online that they would never say at a live table. Or at least not any live table I've ever been at.

Yes, I agree that you need to be disciplined at home. Can't be watching tv, making food, checking email, etc., all of which I've done, but I do notice that when I've done that, I haven't won much.

Another thing I've learned playing online is players are much more aggresive online vs. live.

although sometimes, if i`ve been playing too long, i start to better when i play one game in the background...because i go back to ABC..and quit trying fancy shit
