You guys are awesome at making arguments that have no substance. You've done nothing but spat out pointless & wrong statements like "its stupid" and "only rookies raise".

This calls for THE SANITY AVENGER!

The Sanity Avenger is my alter ego, and we he will explain to you why you are wrong with 2 arguments:

Argument Numero Uno: We have more equity, so we should exploit that edge!
Suppose I am holding a very strong hand, such as A23Kds, and my opponents will play hands such as a 56JTr. If we each put 1$ into the pot, I will win $1.25 on average because we have 62% equity in the pot. That's not a "theory", that's straight up probability. If you have a bag full of marbles, 9 are red & 1 is white, and you pull a random marble out of the bag, over the long run 90% of the marbles you pull out will be red. This is no different. Arguing that "theory doesn't always happen in practice" is just variance over the short term.

Argument Numero Dos: Pro's raise in Omaha 8
Captain Zig Zag said a bunch of fun quotes like:

However, if only rookies raise preflop, then obviously if Barry Greenstein raises preflop, he must be a rookie.

Here is a video of Barry Greenstein playing HORSE. Notice, at 10:45 in the video, he raises preflop with AQ73ss. So by your logic, Barry Greenstein is either a rookie, or you're horribly wrong.

So in conclusion, you're horribly wrong. You can proceed to keep spewing your horrible advice of never raising preflop, but the only purpose it will serve is to entertain us with your stubborn ignorance.

It must be brilliant, to be brilliant.

I am not brilliant. I am merely sane. However, I can understand how you could confuse that with brilliance, given all the insanity posted here.

too many people just don't really understand h/l and they don't know how to fold a hand to begin with...if you're losing money from quartering then you should be folding and seeing more cheap flops instead of losing your checks slowly. Four to a mid-straight seems to always work for me....5678 ish ya know

Typically 4 connected cards is a very powerful hand. But 5678 is probably the worst 4 possible for a couple reasons:

1) If you're gonna be on the nuts (hi) end of a straight (i.e. board shows 457), you'll be splitting the high with a low for sure. And if your str8 doesn't come on the flop (which it won't), you'll pay a lot on a draw, cuz everyone is raising on the low. Alternately, if you're on the low end of the str8 (board showing 89T) a straight to the J or even Q beats you.

2) This would really only apply if you were suited or double-suited. Your cards are too low to be certain your flush was good. You even see K or Q high flushes get beat.

capt. i just searched you on OPR (on all 3 acct names you have in your profile) and you've got next to no winnings at all in any games, including omaha h/l...why do you feel you're such an expert? (not saying that I am...I just think you've got your head up your ass.)

you apparently haven't read up on omaha h/l at all if you really believe that only rookies raise preflop in omaha h/l....

I've said it before. I don't play on line for money. So you'll find nothing on me.

I play FR's only on line. But I'll be glad to meet for a live thing.

Rawr, you haz damaged my ego soz I challange yew to heads up 4 rollz!!!~~1112

You know, if you can't explain yourself using words, it only makes you look dumber when you challange someone to an "omaha death match". Call me crazy, but I don't think anyone is gonna go out of their way to play a game with a guy who is obviously stubborn & a bit brash to settle a grudge started on an online poker forum.

Last time I checked, this is a discussion forum. If you can't logically discuss things, and you wanna settle every argument by playing a high variance game, you should probably go elsewhere...

I even offered to fly in to your casino.

Wuts the matter? Can't play poker without your fat belly hanging over your hole filled underwear?

CAPT. ZIGZAG. You lost, give up before you look like a total moron/jerk.

c9 made a good, educated post demonstrating why you were wrong, so unless you can demonstrate some proof of your own instead of issuing a CHALLENGE FOR BILLIONS OF DOLALRS. That said, I would accept :)

To Pothole: Just because you saw some people playing bad and/or losing with a slightly favorite hand doesn't mean raising preflop is bad. I bet half the time they didn't even have the best hand and didn't know what they were doing.

Ok guys. Enough is enough. It's one thing to have differing points, or see a mistake in one's logic, and point it out respectfully, and give everyone a chance to learn from it. It's another to be totally rude and belittle someone because of it. When you do that, the thread just turns into a pissing match, and everyone winds up looking like ***holes.

This thread had a decent debate going on. Don't ruin it with your pissing contest. Some of you have had this brought to your attention before...it's getting kind of old for me or anyone else having to come in and remind everyone to play nice.

Now, I hope you can all be big boys and carry out this debate as respectful, intelligent adults. Thank you very much.

Juicee, can we just shut this thread down? I mean, none of the last 11(!) posts are strategy-related. As informative as C9's posts are and as entertaining as Zigzag's nonstop "FINE THEN YOU WANT A PIECE OF ME? LET'S GO PLAY HEADS-UP I'LL CRUSH YOU BRO!!!!!!!!!!! rants are, stick a fork in it, this sucker's done.

And I'll even put a bit of O8 strategy out there just so this thread dosen't end with 12 straight OT posts. Ready? Don't go crazy with A2 when that's all you got. There.

Oh, and my apologies to dive and James for my own redundant post about FHs.

LOL! U R funny. No worries on the FH. :D I've said it b4, and will say it again. I am VERY strongly in DISfavor of mods shutting down posts because of a little strife. This one did not get particularly ugly (maybe just in my own experience on another board), just let it die a natural death. It WILL happen. I can see why they shut down the freeroll post crap, but in healthy arguments, if not racist name-calling or the like, I hate that level of 'moderation'. In my mind and heart of hearts, it's censorship. JMHO

Nope, no reason to close this thread at this point as jQ was clear enough above. If anyone wants to carry on the discussion in a rational manner, by all means please do. Starting this point forward, I'll just will begin issuing warnings (or if necessary, infractions) for any more personal attacks, flames, or name calling in this thread. :)

just fyi its kind of difficult to have a rational conversation with a guy who's only argument is "HU FOR ROLLZ". :( however, i will attempt to continue a conversation in a rational manner.

A very important point to make with regard to hand selection and pf raising in Omaha H/L is POSITION. In early postion A,2,x,x with no suits and no other pr or good high or low cards is a limp at best...and probably not even worth risking the chips since someone is bound to make a raise after you and then what do you do out of postion....FOLD...waisting the limp money. On the other hand this hand is significantly stronger in late position if no one else has entered the pot before you or there was a late position limper before you. After you play it a lot your instincts help make it become second nature, but no one should talk about hand selection and betting without taking into consideration your position.

this made me think because I too have always hated censorship and being regulated by anyone (resents authority) but since being here I don't know how to think about it . we're supposed to be the friendliest forum on the net but we can't close a thread every time someone is rude . on the street it's easy , if someone calls me ignorant or stupid I just slap them in the teeth , if they don't like that then I either kick their ass or get mine kicked. people act any way they want when there's nothing anyone can do about it .

I just wish we could all get along and if someone thinks your opinion is stupid or ignorant then all that needs to be said is I completely disagree and explain why . oh well I'm just venting all the rudeness and arguing is getting to me . jmo :)
