I don't think it should have any effect. Do you always buy-in for the max?

Yeah, I currently buy in for $200 (max) at 1/2. I'm just not sure if I should be sitting down with $500 when the time comes if people are going to be playing with thousands.

Buying in for the max when it's 100bb is the norm. Not so much when it's 400bb.

I generally buy in for the max at 1-2. I suspect very few people will regularly sit with $2k at 2-5. It's a nice option to have if you lose a monster pot and a fish is sitting with $2k though.

Yeah I mean if you're not rolled just sit 100bb deep and especially if you're first moving up no need to sit deep and put yourself in a position to make decisions where you'll be scared money. As for goals those definitely shouldn't change if the goal was 20k bankroll just keep that as the goal and like I said when you move up to 2/5 just start sitting with 500 and as you get more comfortable with the bigger pots/bets you can start increasing buy-in especially when you see weaker players you can cover.

On a somewhat related topic...

One of my cash thread goals was to reach 40 buy-ins for 2/5 NL live, which at the time was $20k (100BB buy-ins). Since then, the local casino raised the maximum buy-in at 2/5 to $2k (400BB). I'm not anywhere near it yet, but I was wondering how this affects my goal.

Any thoughts?

Was talking to a few 'shoe regs and dealers about this actually, and did some thinking on my own. First off, I heard that it's not that common for people to buy in for $2k. $500 or $1k are way more common. Second, as some people have said, it's a nice option to have if there's someone on your right with a huge stack and they're fishy or whatever. But if the only guy who is more than $1k deep is a solid reg and he'll be two to your left, then I see no reason to buy in with more than $1k unless you're Phil Ivey.

Also, since when are you thinking about moving up to 2/5? Or is this more a long-term thing? I agree that 20k is still a solid goal, and that when you first move up, buying in 100bb makes perfect sense.

Long term. I'm obviously not even close to moving up. The new max just had me thinking.

I wonder if the 2/5 pool there is soft. For some reason, I don't think it is. But that's just my best guess.

I'll be at 1/2 for a long time anyway.

You must be coming here to celebrate another successful season from the Browns. Don't party too hard.

Gotcha. I still have to worry about getting rolled for 1/2, so you got me there :D

Haha, well I don't necessarily have a huge roll for 1/2 either. About 14 buy ins. At one point, I was at about 4...

Well I played a ton without being bankrolled at all, so, 4 = no problem :)

Haha I used to do that before I binked a couple tourneys. But that was when I had never even heard of the term "bankroll management." You're a better man than I am if you can play with practically zero BR and not be scared money. I really don't think I could pull that off now.

Any particular reason you decided to bet 1/3 the pot on the turn?

Eh, I kind of meant more like, "What was your reasoning behind betting 1/3 the pot on the turn?" Making mistakes is fine - recognizing them is how we grow. I'm not really one to talk, since I do this all the time, but you don't need to be so hard on yourself to improve. Identify mistakes, then move forward.

Looking at that particular hand again, I actually think we should raise on the flop and plan to gii on the turn if UTG doesn't 3b jam. He opened from UTG, and cbet into 2 opponents on a wet board. Seems like an overpair or a strong draw is pretty likely, so let's just shovel the money in. I don't think the chance that SB flats and comes along for another street outweighs the value in getting UTG to put more money in right now.

Hehe. Jokes aside. Reason i said i suck is cause i hate how i played the hand. (the facepalm is me saying look at what i got myself into by not raising the flop.)

Thing is, i flatted in order to dry to drag SB along and if i was lucky he might even try and make a play here on such a wet board. Turn card was the last card i ever wanted to see ,so i tried to make a blocker type bet to see where they are at and to try to maybe full up on the river. River makes my hand a snap fold obviously.

Getting it in on this flop with this hand is DEFINITELY the way i should have gone.

On a sidenote thanks a lot scourge for the analysis and the help. much appreciated. This is prolly gonna be my last post of 2013 since i got to head off to a party since its like 8PM my time.

So happy new year to everyone here on CC. Looking forward to seeing januarys cash thread, and looking forward to running good throughout 2014. HIP HIP...:p
