I myself try not to play poker when I am stressed because I find that I am more likely to make decisions I will regret in the long run at the poker table under these conditions.
I 100% agree with you. While I do enjoy playing poker and it brings me lots of joy and fun, if I am playing for any meaningful money I will only played with a clear head when my tasks in real life have been taken care of.
Poker at meaningful stakes puts stress on our system whenever we face big decisions, if we are already depleted from other stressors we will end up making emotional instead of rational decisions. So it's best to keep your stress batteries charged up before firing up the tables
I only play when I'm motivated and when I'm too braided at the start of the game. I speak to my unconscious and repeat the same sentence for several minutes. like for example "I am happy". it helps me relax and improves my concentration. on the other hand at the end of the game I always feel a lot of stress. because I know the variance is harder to beat. to manage this stress. I analyze the game of my opponents. even when I'm not in the spot. I also focus on my breathing.
Playing poker can definitely cause stress but to start playing a game when you are already stressed is a very bad idea. If I'm not having a good day or feeling upset or stressed I avoid playing. It is best to only sit down to play when you have positive vibes. Your mentality is very important in the game of poker.
Never, to me it is a waste of time to get involved with an MTT and invest time when there are other factors involved. Read something early on that influenced my choice when to play.
Looking to play when I'm mentally, physically and emotionally vested to the event. Nothing bothers more to be 4 to 5 hours into a tournament and loose focus or distraction from something negative that happened that day. Rather spend my time doing something else.

I live in Ukraine, where stress is a familiar condition and no one pays attention to it. If you mean stress as a reaction to defeats in poker, then I play for fun and at micro limits, so this does not affect me in any way.
I find that involving stress into poker is a huge detractor. If Iím stressed before I need to clear my thoughts. If I canít I avoid the playing. If I get stressed at the table I step away or stand up to relieve my stress. Thereís too many variables to consider when playing and when emotions are involved mistakes are made. I have tried recently keep on playing despite tilt or stress or losses to see what will happen . Of course the same thing I noticed in the past I saw also now .More losses , stupid games , total loss of time (and money , although I have extremelly strict BRM the last years , with the exceptions of some tilt breakdown bankroll disaster moments , due to casino mostly , that's why I stopped casino for more than a month , hopefully FOR EVER ) .
So yes , take a break when you are stressed , or when you have many losses , play another day .
But if you just want to kill time just to feel better , not having sth else better to do , playing a game freeroll or very very low buyin , not at all concerning for your BRM , just to kill time while you watch a video or movie or whatever , I would do that , rarely but it happens . It depends on losses and mood . If I have losses I don't wanna play at all . If I have very bad mood and I am extremelly sad , I don't want to play . If I am a little sad or anxious , wanting to kill my time or to play with sth to forget my worries , I might play a very low buyin game or a freeroll for fun , cashgame or tournament , if I really don't care so much about the outcome because of the low buyin , so I am free to have completely fun , even if I lose in the end
no, on the contrary I play when I am full, when I am motivated, when I want to destroy the tables, hahaha in other words I play when I feel good, because that makes me make better decisions and so I can get profitability in poker, advice never play when you're stressed, things are not going to go well for you.
For sure you can have some fun playing some freerolls games. Of course, it,s better not to play high stakes, if you are stressed. Just take a little rest and play some freerolls without risking your own money.
I like poker, I get high from it when you are among the top 10 out of 4,500 participants, I understand what victory is, even if you have stress, drink a pill and go forward to achievements, I just wish everyone victory.
Ideally, I try not to stress play poker - but that's life and it is impossible to predict or adjust! Sometimes during the game you can time how to get stressful situation and conversely be reduced, and the positive aspects!

If I try to play poker stressed, probably going to last about 5 minutes, I have founded that the best way of playing it is enjoying play. If you enjoy it, be patient and play smart, for sure I'll see you at the final table
