The gaming clubs in central Ohio recently were the subject of a negative and not 100% accurate TV news report. Here is the link for that

This "report" (if you want to call it that) was one sided and was instigated by the local "Vegas Nights" group. "Umpire Gary" who was so concerned about the kids is part of that group as their armed security. Slight conflict of interest as he probably gets $1000 each time his kids get $7000.
There are at least 5 clubs decent clubs in the Columbus area.
Gemini is probably the best club. This clubs has the best action, is probably the best run as far as adhering to their stated rules. One thing everyone needs to remember at any place where you play poker is that the rules are not hard and fast. Meaning that rules are to keep the game honest and fair and are not to be used to take advantage of situations by angle shooters. Mondays are still their best night. They also get a pretty good 5/5 No cap buy in going.
A new club in Pickerington is pretty good from what I have heard. Nice atmosphere and nice players. Buckeye Card Club
EPC or Eastside Players Club is good for action but can get a little obnoxious at times... the players that is.
Evergreen Players Club is very nice. Not tons of actions but they hold nice tournaments, players are very nice and club is pretty decently run. This is a good place for very timid new players. Laid back atmosphere. Now that is not to say the other clubs are not good for new live players. You should never worry about the clubs because the floor personel in the club will do their best to accomodate you and make you feel comfortable. You should never be "scared" to go and play.
A new club is just opening on the north side of Columbus. Columbus Sports Club. Like Gemini this club is stressing game play in general and not just poker. This makes is a very fun and well rounded club. I have not been to this club but based on recommendations by players I know and trust their judgement this club will quickly grow to rival Gemini. I look forward to joining this club.
Word out on the street also has it that the club on the west side of Columbus is still operating. I will relay back any news I hear.
Of course there are still the Vegas Nights and though I sometimes have negative things to say about it, it can be an enjoyable place to play Limit Holdem.
Next best options are to drive to IN near Cincy, WV ( recomment Mountaineer for tournaments ) or Detroit for the 3 casinos it has. There are a few other casinos out there but they are a bit further to travel to such as Indy Live near Indianapolis.
This is all in relation to central Ohio travel of course.
