This could be away to start woth 0 and build your bankroll up from a freroll i recently won a private homegame and went from 0 to 30 dollars

This was always my reasoning of playing freerolls too. Its fun, you learn a lot from it and you also have that chance to build your bankroll up. Its not a lot of money but it does help. After winning a recent freeroll tournament, I went from 0 to 30 dollars in my account too!

Definitely

I will tell you, have you ever been involved in a Poker game and suddenly the phone rings and someone needs a lift to the hospital or picking up from the Airport.
I have and let me tell you it is soul destroying leaving a game you are winning, to go and make a living, you see I was a self-employed Taxi Driver for 15 years and had to work when I was needed, not when I wanted, so playing poker was something I did in the quiet times of the day.
Also have you ever been on a winning streak and suddenly your computer decides it has had enough and crashes on you, or the Internet stops working, I am sure we have all been there one time or another.
So that is why I play free-rolls not to make a fortune but so I do not lose a small fortune when things start to go wrong.

I find I often run into the same type of disturbance when I’m playing, weather it be at the tables or in real life. I’m still young so I only factor in my work but I’ve started playing freerolls recently and I’ve had a 4 figure cash in one. You just have to put in more hours as play a lot more aggressive and consistent.

Well, it's possible to plan ahead and make sure you will not be disturbed while playing a tournament...
Sure, the computer or internet might crash, but so can your car and you still are a taxi driver.
The risk is in reasonable boundaries....

It does happen to me also and its indeed soul crashing.Even if its only freerolls, The worst feeling also is I am waiting patiently for a good starting hand and all of the sudden i leave for like a minute to grab a coffee or something, and what you think happens? I find I had AA and wouldve won a huge pot!!! I go into a poker rage and push the self-destruction button....

I use freerolls to improve my game for free, or learn a new one - the other day I accidentally enter a freeroll for PLO - got intrigues, and not I enter every PLO freeroll I can.

Free rolls are fun. I prefer them when I do not have enough time for a buy in tournament

I think it has all happened to us, but you have to know your own schedules to play not to play when you are free knowing that you have to do other things, there are tournaments at all hours of the day, remember when others sleep a poker player is playing like that later see the fruits

That’s why I also like freerolls because it’s not as painful if something blooper happens before ITM. Of course, if it happens on FT it’s painful everywhere.

I play free games because I can earn some money without spending any more on my balance. And from the freeroll you can earn some money.

Thanks Guys I have read all your comments, and find a lot of similarities. I am lucky in some sense that being self employed, I was able to retire early and now I can play a lot more often, But only last night I was playing in the CC free-roll on pokerstars and lo and behold! my daughter needed a lift somewhere, I didn't mind that much as I had made chip lead and was able to get down to the Final table and finished in 3rd place ($11.00).
As for Cash games, I have never really had a liking for them, they are a totally different monster! and a quick way to bigger losses, Sure I have tried them, not only on-line but also in Casino's and Pubs, and they do give the more advanced player an edge over most amateur players.
Many times I have walked away with 8 X, 10 X, or more X my original buy-in, but with there being no heads up play, I find they have no other purpose than to try and make as much money as possible and run. (lol).
I like the feeling of being Number One, the Top Dog, The Head Honcho, call it what you want, and find the pleasure of actually winning is far more important than the money you win.
Money comes and goes, but that feeling of being number 1 stays with you for a long time, I can get more pleasure from winning a free-roll, (usually around $20) than getting a place in a MTT that can pay as much as $100 or more.
I have experienced both and my best win was for 2nd place in a Live game and I won £200, I was gutted! I had spent 8 hours or more playing against 160 other players only to finish 2nd.
Sure it was free money but at the end of the day it's the winning that counts, not the money! Keep playing free-rolls, enjoy the game's and remember----

When the fun Stops, STOP!

Freerolls are completely +EV. There is no downside, the only thing it costs is time and you can build a BR from nothing. They may not be the most profitable, but even having one going on the side if you have a deep run can bring you from a slightly losing session to break even.

. I feel freerolls can teach you a lot about the game! You usually need to practice patients or you will be out very quickly. In freerolls premium hands are busted on a regular basis so you need to be patient and learn to play your premium hands differently. This will help if you come up against a super aggressive player. A freeroll also can be a good platform to practice bluffs for you have nothing to loose so if you think you have a read on your opponent you can bluff and see If you play in the same freerolls a lot you can also build some poker friends to chat with and I feel that seems to make the game go a little faster.:D:D

You learn to wait which is vital for long run tournaments.

I totally agree. It's a great learning tool. As far as patience is concerned, I lack it sometimes and I really am out very quickly.

I know most people think freeroll poker is crazy poker, but the CardsChat freerolls are quite tough to beat, mainly because the entire field is competent and heavily weighted towards the tighter side of the equation.

I love playing em each night, precisely because I view them as being a significant challenge to be conquered someday, somehow... and yes we learn thru such a process so it's important to go thru such experiences.

Thankfully, I can "brag" that my bankroll is still so small that winning 20 bucks in a freeroll is a significant win for me. :D I can certainly imagine that if someone has hundreds or even thousands of dollars in their bankroll, then the freerolls would essentially be like using the play chips, and they might not take it quite so seriously as most of us seem to. :)

To be honest, I am a very poor person and therefore even micro-stakes are a significant waste of money for me. Freerolls are my salvation.
