I like both.....pros and cons to each....please contribute if you can think of more...
Live
- more social interaction - sometimes I learn something about a topic I did not expect to hear about that week! - also odors and sometimes loud/obnoxious/drunk player
- staredowns can be intimidating
- mechanics of live means that everything takes longer and so less hands per hour in live
-
tells - Facial Ticks - Body Language - Story with his bet/shove
- may need to "call" the clock
- game is very visual - should be able to see the bet in front of a player and then ask the dealer for verification /clarification
- human error - mis-deals (card flips up or off table, etc.) - betting more of less chips than intended
- more difficult to track stack sizes / time to next level / No. of players left / etc.
Online
- don't have to travel anywhere and I can play in my jammies and drink my own 6-pack of favorite beverage
- have the ability to close all chat / verbal/text/messaging interaction
- Tells are more about player behavior such as bet size - length of time to bet or call, etc.
- automatic clock sometimes not enough time to really think through a hand
- human error - never on dealer's part (stacks / side pots / winning hands are all accurate and automatic) - Player misclick errors
- game is visual but all the numbers and sometimes stats are easily visible and instantly understandable
- Online I have never seen the floor called to freeze the clock while he hears complaints from players!
Some people say online is less lucky. Ex......guy shoves w AA preflop and gets called w garbage that beats AA. Well truly for every stunt pulled like that for whatever reason.....one player gets lucky - the other unlucky - so the universe balances out even-steven. But AA remembers being cracked more vividly than the guy that cracked those aces - so the story that survives and is retold is the aces cracked.
I'll say this......every weird runout of cards that people complain about online - I have seen live. Bad beats and weird board runouts just happen.
