It varied from 1.10-5.50 per tournament that I would play when I started playing tournaments.

It's just in words everything is easy and simple. But for some reason, only 25% of players are in profit if they play for money. Consider this.
Not 25%, but 5-10% at best.

It will be very difficult for a beginner to win something even on micro, I would even say impossible. This is not 2012.

I can say a beginner. I mostly play freerolls, cis cash is rare. But I think that you shouldn't stay long on freerolls. You need to move on to playing for money, this disciplines and gives an impetus to development

Lots of comments here about freerolls, and while I agree, it's also great to start with LIMIT Hold 'em. Freeroll or not, when somebody at the table gets a massive lead, they start bullying you with their chips and force you out of a lot of pots. In a Limit game, they can't really do that, so you can play more hands and get more experience.
