Definately understanding re-buys + add ons for other tournaments but still not getting it for this one. Just seems like a waste of money since you can just enter another one. Plus the add on only gives 2000 chips, ive done it twice when low stacked but otherwise seems like throwing money away. Ive probably done at most 25 of these so far and won 184, 185, and 18 dollars, so put in somewhere in the range of 80-90 dollars and won just shy of 390 so a profit of most likely over 300 dollars.

If this is the wrong way to go about this tournament, why am i in such profit? especially considering ive had a load of brutal beats.

Sorry - but if you don't get it after reading this thread I really can't help you get it. :)

Oy.

if you buy once and bust and leave.. and enter another tournament you are throwing away money. you are leaving dead equity for the others in the game. Essentially you are coming to a gunfight with a single shot, while the rest have machine guns.

As to your results. well done. but had you used more rebuys you might well have done better.

Lastly, I'm with dakota. We've pretty much laid out the gospel on this subject here. If you still don't get it i suggest searching the web or the biggest forums for tourneys. You'll find much longer and more detailed threads... and many of the posts will be by the worlds best internet players. (But they will say what Dakota and I have said)

Just to add that there are also $3.30r 180 mans which people might be tempted to play aside from the scheduled one each evening - I'd definitely say avoid them, they are full of regs and pretty tough from what I've been told by someone who grinds them!

actually i LOVE these. these are turbos. If you play the 180 $3 turbo the #r turbo is a better value all around. Far less variance in the rebuy as you can invest a couple extra bucks to guarantee that you go into push/fold mode much later. Also the prize pool bloats up over the std $3 so it loosely makes up for the rebuys.

You do have a point though that there are a number of regs in these, but probably fewer than in the $3 turbo 180man freeze

Because of the prize pools apparently a lot of $12/180 regs play the $3s and there are some good players...

A point about addons I made in another thread: If the number of chips you get from adding on is bigger than the number of chips you get from rebuying (as is the case in a lot of rebuys), you are throwing money away by not adding on because you pay the same amount of money for more chips...bye bye equity :)

As to another point made ^^:

Once you've busted a rebuy, what's the difference between buying in again and playing a different tournament? Effectively nothing...

Still a very bad decision not to add-on. It is really very simple - no need to look for exception scenarios because there really are not any - especially for inexperienced players which we all are:

ALWAYS ADD ON

Must take the add-on anyway ... well, until we do not learn to distinguish between these situations

Short of having half the chips in play with 500 players left, there is no situation where taking the addon makes no sense. The only time not to is if you arent roled, but if yo uarent rolled to addon, don't play the tournament.

I've never seen a top player not addon, even in big buyins. The only exception to that was when one of them wanted to amuse themselves and see how they could do with just the original buy. But they did that for amusement, not because it was a smart idea.

I had the idea that if the stack size is large then we can save money on the addon, but it turns out this is an erroneous opinion, unnecessary amount of chips never hurt ...

What do you think ... if you play MTT immediately for 4 tables, it is good or you need to concentrate on one?

Are you asking if you can multi table MTTs?

Then yes - start off with say 4 and add more in as you get better at quickly digesting all necessary information.

If you are not used to multi-tabling start with just 2 - then move up to 4 when you are comfortable with 2.

Have a question about some things that challenge me in terms of rebuy tournaments that I either missed or haven't seen yet:

How do you adjust your strategy based on how fast the blind levels go up (turbo and hyper turbo tournamnets)?

How do you adjust your strategy based on the table size (6-handed vs. full ring)?
