I just started MTT'ing about a week or 2 ago and could use some tips on a few things from more experienced players in this format:

- What do you use to maintain focus during the tourney? (music, YT vids on strategy, cellphone, funny dog vids, etc. ?)
- What is your advice on Late Registration and if you use it, what's the cut off?
- At what point (or how) did you decide you were skilled enough to move on from practice stake-tournaments to going for a decent/high RoI-stakes/tournaments.
- What are some of the latest, most gamechanging/eye-opening books or whatever other methods you found to step up your game?

I got a few more in the chamber but I'll leave them be for now, looking forward to learning more through your replies.

Rgds,
Some random dude

1. I get motivated by the competition and the money so I stay focused on what’s going on at the table at all times. I’ve tried music before but it’s not for me while playing.
2. I don’t do the late reg thing, I like to be there early and on time.
3. At what point did I think I was skilled enough to play? lol I just started playing. It was almost 30 years ago and I saw it in the casino, it looked fun, so I jumped in and have been playing ever since.
4. I think the most eye opening helpful books have been about Poker Math and Poker Psychology. If you get a handle on these two things you will go far.

Good luck Random Dude and have fun!

Thanks for the book suggestions, will give the psychology one a read first. Al though I might opt for audio books. I noticed I learn easier and more 'profound' hearing and practicing than reading/studying. Which is why I love watching/listening to mtt coaching vids during am actual mtt 😅

I like music, but you have to chose whatever makes you feel comfy.
Late reg has a problem. You start with a loss less BB than your competition, so you have to shove-pray or fold a lot more.
Appart from the CC's course, I recommend the forum's tournament poker hands' analysis section.
As for books I recommend David Sklansky's books, perfect for beginners and Gripsed's training videos in YouTube.
Cheers!
