But it is not recommended is a supreme act of pride is usually played that way in front of a rival who has a low stack.

I just read somewhere that if you play your hands without looking at your cards (and only look if you are about to fold) you become a much more perceptive player being able to take advantage of position and chip stack and sense weakness and take advantage of it. The advice was to play a few live tournaments like this (with as small buy ins as you can find). Just wondering if anyone has done this and did they find it improved their game?

IMO, if you are playing the cards, you are playing poker incorrectly. Why not play like this every once in a while. It will, at minimum, give off a fishy image to the rest of the table that you can capitalize on later.

Annette Obrestad did this online on pokerstars and won the tourney she was playing ... it's a good exercise in playing position and studying your opponents ... she beat 179 players without looking at her cards ... even folded kings as was shown in the tourney replay .. she did say she looked once i believe in an allin situation but for the most part she did not use the cards in her hand to make her decisions .. i think it's a good exercise to try .. gl

Just saying anyone that folded if they knew you were not looking with even a decent hand is a bad player I'd prob reraise you with any even mediocre hand unless you were shoving in which case I would call with top 25% of hands
I don't know how you could reraise me for I went all-in every time. I was also doing this for a purpose and it worked. Mr. Poker even folded A K suited. He went on tilt, we took him out, then we got back to enjoying the game.:D:D

Annette Obrestat did it. If you look her up I think you will find the posts on it. She would tape over her computer screen. It is good practice but IRL its probably better to understand your equity, shove/fold, stack sizes, and betting patterns.

You can always raise and out play others with any two cards based on their play.

It is possible to win a pot or two by raising without looking but I do not recommend it is just silly play.

Totally don't look at your cards. Sounds like fun. BTW, which casino do you play at?

This kind of poker is played after u got some serious experience, but its possible ofc to give it a try even if youre have no idea how to handle the situation and you're strategy is basically based to luck

The idea was just to do it for a few tourneys as an exercise to improve your reading ability, not as a way to play all the time :) Thanks for all your replies!

When I'm in good position and have stack I do this frequenly. I play the board before seing my cards. Sometimes your oppenement did not know if you are seing your card or not. I just see my card if a position raise a bet. You need sometimes to focus on what the other tinking of you. Why he call or raise and with what. When you reraise you know if your image is good or not. by the fact ot the spped of the respond. I reed so well at table the other one. Thats help me a lot . last week I had just 44 at the river and the guy always bet the river at each time. Guess who's won??? my read.
