if it's something that can wait until after my game, i'll wait. if not, i just sit out and do whatever it is i need to do. it's not that big of a deal as i only play microstakes mtts. so, sitting out during the middle of a $1 mtt doesn't bother me. when i get back, and hopefully i'm still in it, i just make the necessary stack adjustments.

i've even sat out of a final table to grab dinner with my gf. luckily, i was 2nd in chips when i sat out for ~45 minutes. came back and i was still in 4/4. did some maneuvering and was able finish 3/3 in the end.

I just manage it by saying that i take this particular day or evening off and cannot be disturbed. It is like when I am studying for university. We have a healthy relationship where we just adjust to each other and as long as it is not everday and we still have quality time together it is all fine and should be.

Missing an orbit isn't really the worst thing in the world, but I would rather be focused on the MTT continuously (as do many top pros). I suspect more important is WHY someone (especially girlfriend, but really anyone) wants your attention while you are busy.

They likely just want to know where your priorities lay and don't want to be ignored all the time. Even the smaller MTTs can take several hours, it is no surprise someone wants something from you during this long span of time.

For everyone (mostly family) around me when I play poker, they are aware of what I'm doing and typically leave me to focus. Communication is key with these things (exponentially so for close relationships), so setting some boundaries and guidelines beforehand (even if negotiated, or compromised) can go a long way

I am in a similar frame of mind, when it comes to on-line Poker, I really do not invest that much buying into games I may be called away from, only not from a Girlfriend, my problem is with my Wife and Daughter, so I have two who must be obeyed, when it comes to lifts somewhere, or help around the house.
That's another reason I prefer Live games over On-line, they know better than to interrupt me during my time! The Pub and Casino's are My Time to do as I wish.
