Before you play any tourn you should know how many people play in it usually, how many normally cash and how long it usually takes to cash and that's all without playing a single tourn. Its easy to do that online but that might take a few trips to a local casino with a lot more time and effort on your part.

But it might still make sense if your entry fee is a lot more then the cost to get to the casino to scope out the tourn and know where to go and what to expect if you're really considering playing in a tourn.

The first time I played in a casino live tourn I was really surprised at the quality of folks playing. It was low live buyin for a few hundred and I thought these folks knew starting hands, lol.

They were going all in like it was a website freeroll, lol and I was sitting there playing solid ABC poker and I didn't know what was going on for the 1st 15-30mins of the tourn until folks started showing, lol. I went out just shy of the money and I didn't even realize how close I was to the money in that first live tourn until AFTER I busted, lol.

Go scope out the tourns or go see how they play live before playing so you know what you're getting yourself into. The whole tournament experience will "usually" go better whether online or live if you sit there watching and know what to expect before playing it.
