Hi cardschatters.
So the thing is I'm good at cash games and spins, but I love playing tournaments, but I really suck at tournaments.
This month I won over 800€ in Spins and about 300€ in Spins, but tournaments I am running -200€.
I play 0.25 to 3 € Spins, 0.2/0.5 Cash and micro tournaments, my biggest buying was 8.8 euros.
I want to improve my tournament stats, what to do?

As you know the variance is huge in Tournaments.

If you are good in cash games you should also be good at the beginning of a tournament when the stacks are deep. And if you are good at spins you should also be good at the late stages of a tournament when the stacks are very short.

So I guess you should study the middle stages of a tournament more when you have a medium stack.

I fully agree with this entry.
Additionaly , if you play 6-max cash, remember that there are wider ranges than on 9-max, and tournaments are most often played on 9-max tables. and note that playing straight and flush draw hands is riskier in a tournament than in a cash game

Different dynamics and strategies.
Old truth about tournaments is that you need to win few coin flips in order to achieve final table.

Dynamics are determined by time and speed of blinds.

Almost every tournament i have won involved at least two major hands that I was the underdog when we turned the cards over, but ended up winning by the river. At some point you need variance to be on your side.

Why not focus on cash games or spin and gos if you are better at these? Of course you could be a good tournament player too and just been unlucky, there is more variance with tournaments

What site do you play the €3 spins on? I just started playing them over cash and I've really been enjoying them. Right now I'm just playing $1.00s with the occasional $2.00 thrown in when I'm up a few buy ins, but knowing where to play €3 before I tried to play $5s in the future would be awesome

I haven't played online cash games for years because pokerstars quit giving me cash game challenges. In last few years the challenges are always with spins so that is what I have been playing.

What site do you use to play? making 800e per month is a good amount for a non professional. Stick to cash and spins and try to improve your monthly profit.

I love tournaments, and the strategy I use is I play fewer hands at the beginning of the tournament and then I play a little looser, and one thing I never do is bluff, avoid bluffing as much as possible, players tend to call a lot

You just need to study tournament poker the same way you studied cash and spins.

I believe that backs are both the most difficult and easiest discipline. Easy because the stacks are always the same. Spins is a heads-up and 3-max game where you play with the same opponents. You play a bunch of hands with separate regs, and this is a huge scope for adjustments.

If you have stable profits at cash games and at spins, then you must develop these kinds of poker. But if you insist with tournaments, maybe you need to choose the right kind of tournament. Try the turbos who are fast like the spins.

why not play what brings money? play in tournaments for fun, at micro-limits, so that your bankroll doesn’t suffer, or play in turbos - at least the structure is similar to spins
