Add on when to take and not to take

very few times I have done add on, I don't know what they are based on to make the decision, but in my case I think if it is necessary to do it with the amount of chips I have, I don't take into consideration if the other players do it, I think about what that I am able to achieve with the chips I have.

Last week at the local social club, I was the table captain, and tournament leader with over 80 big blinds at level 10. And addon was giving out 4.5 BB for $10, and first & second place were in the money ($800, $200) and I added 9 BB to my stack.

When we were down to 3 players left, I was doing okay until an all-in took me down to 5 big blinds. I ended up placing 2nd by chance. I'm so glad I got the addon, even though I was the chip leader.

If I have alot of chips, I wont take the add on, unless it is a real small amount compared to min cash.

In tournaments with rebuy and addon I try to enter early and accumulate chips as much as possible, if the break is in the average or above I don't see the need to buy the addon but if it is below average and want to continue in the tournament to get the prize and who knows until the final table I buy and keep fighting.

For me this is very fluid. If I'm sitting inside the top 10% and most people rebought I doubt I would. Now let's say I'm sitting in the bottom 10% and the add on will only get me to the bottom 30% again I doubt it as I'm still going to have to double up at a minimum to have a chance at the money. So let's say I have 55k and an add on give me 10k now sitting at 65k in a itm postion with average stack being 35 40k I probably take the add on. To make it more complicated lol this also depends on the buyin and my bankroll.

i usually take the add on if most of my opponents are. but sometimes this is less than 10bb

is there a min number of bbs that is strategically correct in taking the add on.

is there a calculation similar to icm that determines if taking the add on is correct.

any thoughts on add on would be appreciated

There is no definite answer. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. How many players left? What is you position? What is the minimum payout?

i take an add on when i see that pretty much everyone does and if the add on makes their stacks bigger than mine even though i had a bigger stack than many of them lol

it all depends on your stack and bankroll if you have reached the end of late registration with a large stack that covers the size of the addon several times, then there is not much point in using it also with a rebuy, we use this option only with a short stack
