There is a lot of missing infomation here. average stack. players left. ITM/bubble/etc. It also would be helpful to know how you have been playing.

In some situations I'm going to open Jam. And, in this situation it would really depend on the villan's play to this point. It would not necessarily be too nitty if this guy hasn't played a hand in a long time. But the above missing info may help determine that.

Sorry, it was final table, ITM, with avg stack of around 55,000, villan was unkown and was chip leader

I put him on a range of QQ+, AKo, AKs which against this range I was about 40%

Well I'm the super nit. If you are one of the shortest stacks I'm Open Jamming here.
ICM is going to dictate a lot for me in this spot. There are times when I would fold here. But then again I really don't care if I get down to 5 bigs.

open shove.

as played no you can't fold, the pot odds your getting on a call are pretty good and his range seems on the tight side, like do you really think he folds JJ and TT here? does he really fold AJ?

Open shove pre, easy shove over vs the 3bet with 9bb behind. What your opponent shows up with is irrelevant as to whether you made the right play here.

If you give your opponent a range of JJ+ AK+ then you still have to get it in here

Fwiw if you're going to make a normal raise off a 12bb stack, it should be a minraise.

I completely agree with it being an open shove, my reasoning behind the raise was there was a very fishy, aggro in the SB who i had played throughout tourney and had good notes on, he was shoving any 2 cards to a raise from ep and i wanted to induce it from him but unfortunately you see where it went

This for sure, once you raise you're committing yourself anyway pretty much...

Being that said I don't think it was bad at all to call, and a fold would also not be that bad as you could gain one or two positions w/o coin flip with the chip leader.

Really, there's room for both, and that would depend How you've been playing lately, playing lots of hands, not playing at all, because there's the image others show to you and also the image you show. If you've been playing pretty quiet and suddenly open a hand, you wouldn't get to many calls or 3bets from medium hands.
