I would love some advice on the following?

Early in a live tournement no real understanding of opponents as yet.
$55 buy in, I won a ticket at my local venue.

5000 starting stack - We both had about 4700
Blinds 25/50
Postion - One right of button
Dealt 7c7d - Everyone folds to me
Raise to 300
BB only caller
Pot - 625
Flop Jh,7h,Kd
BB bets 475
Pot 1100
I raised to 2800 (Wrong play?) I put him on two hearts - Flush draw
Pot 3900 - It will cost him 2800 to win 3900
BB calls and cries come on and bangs the table
Turn 9s
BB checks
I go all in
BB calls and turns over 10h, Qh - Straight (I didn't even think straight)
River 2c

I thought my raise didn't allow him the right odds to call?
Would you have called if you were him?

Winning percentage after flop (77 60% v 10h,Qh 40%)

What would have been the correct play?
Call his flop bet and wait and see?
All in raise after his flop bet?

Whats the right answer?

I think you played everything correctly and your raise should have got him out of there. He had no business being in that pot.

What??? How is raising 6x pre and making a huge raise optimal/correct here?

Apologies for posting results.

My pre flop raise was to ensure heads up.

So all in or fold?

Whats the matter with a call. (Devils advocate)

If villain misses the turn then you increase your chances of taking down the hand with a big bet on the river. And if he wants call a bet on the river great, he will defeinately getting the wrong odds.

Well, it was a little much, I would have made it 150 or 200. But he still did just fine.

Besides raising to much on the flop like other posters are saying I would have done like, 225. I might have raised on the turn a little lower because of the option of straight. But since you did not put him on that option and on the flush draw I can see it. Sometimes it don't matter because some people will always call if they get at least one out.

Set vs huge draw, standard, you seem to like to overbet both pre and postflop, but the money should be getting in here on the flop every time so it's w/e.

he has an open end straight draw and the nuts, bad time to get pockets it lured you in. I think anybody in the world would do the same in your position, but might raise higher on flop, but he prolly would have called all-in on the flop. Usually you have the best odds, just didnt work out
