my first reaction to this was to think "i did the right thing, he did not, but he got lucky and won", but now what i'm wondering is: did i really do the right plays? appreciate your comments

some background (not much tho): $2 pp mtt, field of 700 players, not many reads since i know that in the beginning of such cheap tourneys there is a lot of low level players doing "unusual" moves and i do not bother to pay that much attention prior to first break

finally, note that i'm not complaining, just trying to improve my game

Looks to me like villian was willing to chase that regardless.
Really your only other play was to shove it at the flop, hoping villian folds, as well as everyone else.

Looks like you were just a victem of ETSS.

That would be Early Tourney Suckout Syndrome

ricav raises [120]

This raise achieves nothing other than juicing the pot and making harder to make a bet that has significance post-flop. Minraising is seldom a good idea but with the blinds this low it's even more dangerous. The purpose of a preflop raise is to signal the strength of your hand, build a pot and define your opponents hand. You've done the first and second, but failed on the third and let people in cheap.

Family pot!!! They could now have absolutely anything.

Pot is 600

** Dealing Flop ** [ Ks, 2s, Qh ]
MoisscherMoe bets [60]

^This bet is pointless, no idea what he's trying to achieve.

ricav raises [360]

360 bet at a pot of 660, makes it 360 to call a pot of 1020, gives odds to chase pretty much anything and once one person has called the next gets even better odds. Given that it's a family pot that was cheap to get into and you are fortunately probably still ahead you should really be looking to take it down here. Instead your bet has the effect of encouraging people on a flush or straight draw (both real possibilities to call). You have again juiced the pot.

ErsoyAtar calls [360]

Good call from him, he has plenty of odds, both pot and implied to call here.

ross1987 folds.
Fortuna18952 folds.
MoisscherMoe calls [300]

No idea what he has but the pot is 1380 so join the party with anything pretty :) Pot now 1680.

** Dealing Turn ** [ 5h ]
MoisscherMoe checks.
ricav bets [950]

Aha. A decent bet, but it's too late. It's now a 2630 pot and it's 950 to call. Villain has a decent stack and has potentially 14 outs (9 to the flush 2 fives and 3 fours). In terms of tournament $EV this is an easy call he stands to win 2630 plus your remaining chips if he hits and only lose 950 if he misses (he can fold the river). He is about 26% to hit so doesn't quite have odds unless the othe guy comes along but the benefit to his chances in the tourney of hitting are probably greater than the negative impact of calling and missing. There is also a tiny chance you are chasing yourself.

ErsoyAtar calls [950]
MoisscherMoe folds.
** Dealing River ** [ 5c ]

Boom!

ricav bets [600]

ErsoyAtar is all-In.

And he's fairly certain he's ahead so wants the rest of your chippies.

ricav is all-In.

ErsoyAtar shows [ 5s, 4s ]three of a kind, Fives.

The whole thing looks like he chased it from the start but that could be misleading. I think you dug your own grave here starting preflop and missed the chance to get him to make a mistake on the flop after that. He could still be a chasing fish or he could be someone happy to speculate a bit with the implied odds early in a tournament to build a stack.... and there's nothing wrong with that :)
