There were times that I would reason a call here for myself...but lately, my thought process at beating the smaller stakes has changed to avoiding these situations early on. Thoughts?

full tilt poker Game #6650638823: $10 + $1 Sit & Go (50551076), Table 1 - 20/40 - No Limit Hold'em - 12:35:31 ET - 2008/06/01
Seat 1: morradi111 (2,130)
Seat 2: The Shrog (1,350)
Seat 3: invincible80 (1,210)
Seat 4: saincris (2,075)
Seat 5: winningmychips (1,095)
Seat 6: musterpet (1,140)
morradi111 posts the small blind of 20
The Shrog posts the big blind of 40
The button is in seat #6
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to The Shrog [8h 8d]
invincible80 folds
saincris calls 40
winningmychips folds
musterpet calls 40
morradi111 has 15 seconds left to act
morradi111 raises to 2,130, and is all in
The Shrog ?

Good god why would you ever ever call this? You are flip at best and likely completely crushed.

I would fold here. Obviously the early stages of lotto poker. A HU hand is not guaranteed as there is still 1 more to bet after you, and both have you covered.

If you were first to act, and it appeared the chip leaders were playing rather loosely, then a shove up front might be something I would do, praying all the while everyone would fold. However, in this case you are not first to act, and you have 2 willing participants who might decide to come into the pot if you enter the fray by calling. The pot odds increase for them, and winning odds decrease for you.

Much as I'd generally hate to, I'd be folding this.

Thanks for the insight, dj. For the other responses, as I said, there were times i used to make this call, thinking, "Dude sees AK, maybe AQ, shoves..I'm slightly ahead, probably flipping." More recently, I've come to realize that if I think I am better than the table, there are much better spots to pick instead of taking these races.

lol vs an incredibly loose open shoving range when there are no blinds to steal like AQo+ AJs+ 77+, you are about 40% equity. A tighter range like AKo, AQs+ 99+ has you at about 31% equity. I don't even see why anybody would consider calling this.
