there are 6 other people in the pot. You flopped top pair with a 4 kicker. Someone has to have you beat. Would you just check?

If someone bets would you call? Is it even worth playing?

Sure it is. Lay out a 1/2 pot bet, see where it takes you. It's early enough in the tourney. You don't need to commit your stack of course, but a little feeler bet wouldn't hurt. If anyone comes over the top of you, get out.

Agreed that a feeler bet would be good but also just check/folding to a bet would also be an option. Weak kicker isn't a hand to be fighting with so early on.

Sklansky says, in effect, that a good player knows when to get away from hands like these. Depends on your reads. A 140 pot might be worth a stab at a tight table. At a loose table, you may want to check since you know someone will bet. Then you can re-assess the situation. However, based on your early position on the flop, it looks like check-fold to a bet.

On a purely random cards basis, there's slightly less than evens chance that anyone else holds a Jack (1-45/47*44/46*43/45*....*34/36 = 1-(35*34)/(47*46) = 55% that no-one else has one). If they do, you're beat unless their kicker is a 2, 3 or 4, so it's around 1-10/13*45% = 65% that you have a winning jack.

The only other risk is that someone's holding 76... the chances of this are approximately 1-(1-(6*3)/(47*46))^6) = 5%, or pocket 7s or 6s (2*(1-(1-(3*2)/(47*46))^6) = 3.3%

So I think there's about a 53% chance you have the best hand here - maybe a bit less as people will tend to play hands that are more likely to win. Bet 3/4 pot to get rid of anyone who wants to draw with overcards or a straight draw.

LOL! Fantastic suck-out on the slow players. They deserved to lose that pot. :p

Now what would you have done if he had pushed his stack on the turn? would you have called for incorrect odds?

If either one of the 5 people more than min. raised me on the flop i would of folded. If 67 would of raised i would of folded and he wouldnt of got unlucky and lost the pot. with 6 people to the flop and your holding jacks with a 4 kicker....not good. The turn would of been an even easier fold, 4 other people and not an overcard pops up

This is a perfect example of internet players overdoing the slow play. I agree with juicee, they deserve to lose playing like that.
