I'd fold preflop with that hand, but since you didn't:

You have to raise here. Because the hand wasn't raised, you have NO IDEA what the big blind has. He could have QT, JT, QJ, AK, a flush draw? He could have nothing. But the last thing you want to do is give him the opprotunity to draw out on your second nut straight. Raise the size of the pot, maybe a little less to avoid giving the pot odds to call for a flush, or a gutshot (the odds that 2 pair will improve to a full house)

Likely, you're not going to lose either one of those hands,(especially the 2 pair) so make it unprofitable to get there. What happens if you just flat call?

1) An ace or a 9 comes on the board, killing almost any action, and any action that you do get, likely splits the pot

2) The board pairs, and you still have no information on your villain

3) Flush draw is completed.

In otherwords, make them pay now. I'd raise and hope to get all in by the turn if no flush cards or turned pair comes.

I'd raise to 240 on the flop here. This gives the BB & UTG bad odds to chase. It is highly unlikely that either has AK but AdXd, KQ, QJ, JT, T9 are very much in their range and you have 89 crushed. Plus you hold an out for any FD. Plus you may still get calls from 2P or lower ST8 hands. Also you have position making it pretty easy to figure out what to do if a diamond hits on the turn.

Given the 2 diamonds i would re-raise maybe about 3-4x and see what he does.. Besides the diamonds you dont really hold the the top end of the straight .. if he is holding an Ace and a king falls you are gonna be up the creek.. I doubt he is holding great hold cards since he didnt raise preflop..

At this point, I would just call. There's too much in the pot to fold at this point. but you have to be wary of a full house.

Call, and hope for the best. Too much out there to invest further. But you MUST call here after investing, in case the fh isn't there. Feels like a set of jacks or ak, but........
What he/she have ak ?
Peace,
FLOW

Cold call. You beat everything but a fullhouse and AK. There's a good chance he had J-rag nothing and was "betting for value" with the jack on the flop. Although, the chances are slim he has a fullhouse, its not worth the risk of all your chips if you're wrong. Call here and hope for the best. if you're beat, you're beat.

Some good advice there,i think i made the mistake of giving him a fairly cheap run to the river.. shoulda pushed after the flop but felt he was sitting with AJ at the river and i had him beat.. felt he was playing to slow to have 2 pair on flop....

yeah, raising on the river was a mistake IMO. Had the board not paired, i raise all in 100% of the time, but with the board paired here, i cold call. Tough break on the hand. You made profitable bets/raises on every other street if my math is right.

people seem to like this line but is it wrong to shove on the turn? the raise to 280 looks too small in my opinion and isn't there a need to protect his hand in case of the more likely flush draw?

I'm fine with raising more on the turn, but shoving is a big overbet. If he puts in about half his stack, then a caller is committed, yet still far more likely to call than than against a shove. Betting close to half his stack would take away equity for a flush draw, and at this point, you want 2 pair to call. If someone calls you drawing to 4 outs, you've made the right play.
