i have about 7,000 in chips
villian has 12,300

im in the big blind and villians on the button, villain had been on a very aggresive streak and i had already doubled up on him about 10 hands ago, when i first entered the table with 3,000

everyone in the blinds folded and villian raised all in

i figured he was blufifng me out again and called with A 9 suited

he showed K 3 off suit

he flopped a pair of 3's and the turn and river was blank for me,

What were the blinds/antes at?

Unless we have a very short stack in relation to the blinds, you're still not a huge favourite over, say two undercards or a middle and undercard (like K3). You're only %60 to win here. So unless I'm really short in comparison to the blinds, I'm going to fold and wait for a better opportunity to trap the guy.

Chuck's right

there just aren't great odds on this one. A9s is nowhere near what I want to call this guy's all-in (AQs or better). If he had bet and you pushed all-in over the top I don't have a problem with it, but to call with your hand is not productive no matter how Maniac this guy is.

I'm rather new to this site and I'm definitely not a big stakes player (normally stick to $10> buy-ins) but I like your intuition - although lady luck bit u in the ass. In my opinion, these hunches you get from reading a player are a critical component to your overall game (luck+betting strategy+reading players trends, etc., etc.). You made the right call in my eyes.

While playing with some friends last night, I noticed one player would, like, hyperventilate "subtly" through his nose when he had the nut hand - I used that observation to own him the rest of the night.

The trouble with player reads is that 90% of what applies in a "live" game doesn't apply to online. its true you can get great reads from a real person accross the table - and sometimes play them based solely on that. I do it a fair amount, because I play mostly at a casino.

Online, all you really have is betting habits and history. That means to handle an all in, especially in a tourney, you're going to want a strong hand - not just the fact that your opponent is being over-aggressive.
