I reckon I'm tighter than most in some situations and looser than most in some others. This is one of the former. Whaddayareckon? Is this shrewd, is it weaksauce?? Is it standard???

This is 40 minutes into a $22 MTT with 1000+ entrants on Stars. I've doubled up early and have a more than the average.

Villain's notes read;

"awful call to river gssd!!!!! r J9o pf!!!!!! baaad
bet strength"

The word awful in my notes has specific meaning implying someone who really doesn't know what they are doing (ie probably new). gssd = gutshot straight draw. r= raise. pf= preflop. The more ! I put the more certain I am of the read meaning something (I put ?s if I'm not sure). The number of a's in baaaaaad is also an indicator.

It's not clear from the HH, I'm the SB here.

I fold because his raise is bigger than those he's put in so far which for me screams genuine strength ie JJ+ AK, he will have position on me and most importantly given his calling station nature I don't reckon I'll shake him with a c-bet (and I always c-bet this kind of thing). I'm ruling out a calculated button raise to steal here.

So I reckon a call is costing me at least 750 total including c-bet and I could be dominated and in real trouble on an Axx or Qxx board. If I call and check a missed flop he gets a free card and I face the same decision on the turn.

So I fold cause I have the chips and time to do so and await a better spot to bag him :)

good fold?

I guess :)

just for the record though a call with AQ here is really never that good, I think you either have to raise here or fold. I just read your calling station remark so yea fold is best.

You're read on him was good lol, I see he got knocked out a while back and you're still alive and ITM :) .

I like the fold in those spots as a means of staying out of trouble, nothing worse than hitting a flop OOP and still being behind, time you realize it its too late. His raise to 6 BB's with only 1 limper has to mean something if as you say he has raised less before. There is the added discomfort of knowing he's a calling station which makes any c-bet pointless. Summing it up, if you hit the flop you might be dominated and in big trouble, if you miss you have to give up. All ingredients that make a fold the best move.

At times I think people get too much caught up in defending their blinds and I don't think its that important so early. Much preferable to stay out of trouble and pick better spots.

I'm quietly railing you as of now.

I'm on the phone with your boss right now NL, but he told me he's watching too.

Well, tell him I'm not playing, just watching, and doing lots of work at the same time ....

I'm reading this as a StopnGo from the moment Rex bets preflop; what do you think of their calls?

wsopchain doesn't have Rex outchipped by much so it seems risky for him to call, to me at least.

You were shortstacked the whole time and card dead I presume. Still good result though, was fun to watch, gg sir.

Easy call for them I think Nine :)

I was playing the Party tourney and this side by side all the way while talking to my parents who were here to wish us well on our holiday which starts tomorrow morning. Once the Party finished and they left I was a) carddead and b) keen to get on with the packing.

Desperation move from me as I think they only call with an Ace most of the time (most pairs repop preflop) and the bb may have come along for the odds.

Only worth it due to the size of the pot relative to my stack as I don't have more than a 30% chance of getting that amount of chips if I fold and I reckon they both fold slightly more often than that here.

Not a great move and not to be carried out without supervision :)

Right, on with the packing. No intraweb where I'm going so good luck all and thanks for the railing. Not the best to watch, sorry chaps, the action was all on Party.

I woulda thought the shortstack in the BB should just push preflop himself.

Well - a bit of highjack - but it is your thread lol.

I figure Rex is allowed to redirect his own thread, 'specially since he's a mod. :)

Have a good time.
