If that's the case that account really should be closed then. I know I'll be sorry to see it go but those are the rules. ;)

This look like a coin flip at best and the first hand of a tournament is not a good time for coin flips at least not with so little invested. You can call and see a flop but if you hit the flop you will only get act if your behind most of the time. So call i think calling is marginal and moving in is just crazy. Maybe if you had a read it may be different but i think folding is the best play.

This appears to be the first hand of the game, and presumably we have no reads ?

If your assessment is correct, and villain will usually have QQ or JJ (which would be a coinflip), and sometimes AA, KK (which would make you underdog), then calling is going to lose you money in the long term and you should fold.

I suspect, however, that his range is wider than that. My instinct is to call. If I win and take an early chiplead, my chances of dominating the table and winning the tourney are greatly improved.

If I lose and bust out early, I shrug and move on to the next game. I have not wasted much of my time.

EGON...Ive played with you. Your chances of dominating anything but a donkey roost are near zero...LOL kidding

I would've just flat called there. Way to early for a shove. Call and look at a flop. You can't read him If it's the first hand. He could've had A/Q maybe even 10/10 and in that case you're a coin flip.

Worth a shot.

i know that at the time i shipped it in it wasn't a coin flip situation, although preflop it was. i guess i just said that because i've been losing a lot of flips lately and also was thinking of shoving it in preflop.

flop is semiscarry. Flush draw straight draw. Calling is not an option if you like money. raise or fold 4 sure.

In the long run, I think folding is the better choice. Yes, a couple of times, you will throw away the best hand, but more often than not you're beat and you don't really lose that much if you get away from it there.
