$.50 NL HE: Did I get my money in good here?

Well short description, this was a scheduled tournament on pokerstars ($.50 tournament scheduled at 8:00 pm every night). Over 1800 registered and I finished in 13th, so overall it was a good showing.

The other guy in the hand had a similar playing style to me. I played pretty tight (only saw 17% of the flops the whole tournament).

I was disappointed with the end result, especially since I played for 5 hours and earned $4.50 for my finish. But I want to know if I got my money in good. I'm pretty sure I did. Anyways here's how the hand went down.

The min raise on the turn kind of sucks tbh. Make it ~40 or 50K imo.

Gotchya. I'll keep that in mind on my next tourney. I'm probably going to play in this next Saturday as well. Maybe Friday (depends on if I open Friday or not). Thanks for the input.

I'm not in love with the raise pre-flop. I understand the need for steals, but you're not in spectacular position, and the size of your raise is way too big. If we keep our raises smaller, around 2.5x-3x, we should be able to steal the blinds very often, and when we don't, we can c-bet smaller, conserve our chips, and still take the pot down a large portion of the time.

On the flop, we're no longer at the point where we want to pick up the pot cheaply, we want to get all our chips in the middle. So I question the call on the flop, and I especially question the min-raise on the turn. Otherwise, this is just a pretty sick beat (even though you did let him get there), most of the time you're good in this spot.

I agree with both cj and wv. Too large of bet preflop, not enough postflop. I'd suggest you look up Daniel Negreaneau's small ballpoker videos.

I would re-raise on the flop, and on the turn I would bet big, after the pot has alredy a good amount of chips, I try to not let my oponent see a lot of cards and make anything that is possible when I'm pretty damn ahead

Small Ball

thanks guys. I looked into the small ball, and applied all the concepts earlier today. I liked it a lot. It really opens up my starting hand range from what I usually start with.

Again, thanks for the input.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't small ball usually include smaller raises, so that the pot remains multi-way? That way, you maintain the proper implied odds so that you get paid off when you hit a huge flop with your speculative hand. Also, it requires excellent post-flop play, which you may or may not feel that you have, I can't be the judge of that from just this hand.

I wasn't applying small ball on this hand...I actually hadn't really looked into small ball until dwolfg suggested it in his reply.

I checked into it and have been applying the concepts of small ball into sessions that I've played since this hand I should say. (Maybe you should be a little more clear WVUsellers3, maybe, possibly...might help out, a little.) Which is what you were saying in your first post cjatud.

And you are right, I definitely let him get there. I told myself that when I went to bed, which was right after this was particular hand cause it was almost one in the morning and I had to open the next day :( .
