Hi,

I've been kicking myself over this one for a few days, I'm fairly certain I played it at least slightly right haha. But as it cost me more than half of my stack I'm just not too sure.

Bet 3xBB is too much, I prefer 2.1-2.2 in this phase of tournament. Efect is the same, but you protect your chips and you control a pot from short stacks who have nice pot odds to make shove. You have to pay around 50k to 140k like 1:2.8 nice pot odds, BTN is a short, his range is wide (likely I don't know stats) so I think it is profitable play and when we see hand, we see, typical flip. Just poker. In my opiniom you play ICM good too.

Mini-raising is an option, but I also really like open jamming here. SB have around 20BB, which is a bit much for jamming, but the other two are pretty short with 10BB or so. And even with this somewhat large stack behind us, we are not going to fold, if he 3-bet us. So if anyone wake up with TT+, we are getting it in bad anyway. This mean, there is no extra risk in jamming, and we might avoid some coin flips, which we dont really want to play.

You basically ended up in the best case scenario with 99 preflop, which is a coin flip. You are technically ahead but ended up losing the flip. Just gotta take it on the chin and move on to the next.

Thank you all for the feedback I appreciate it and I'm glad that I did do this correctly and just ended up being unlucky.

Well not really actually, because your 3X open size is not good. It give you much less fold equity than open jamming, and at the same time you lose to much, when you bet-fold with hands weaker than this. With 99 against AJ the result would have been the same regardless of your sizing, because the money is always going in, and it just is, what it is. But with other hands, and against other parts of his range, your sizing was sub optimal.

99 ready big hand if you choose what I would prefer to have unambiguously preflop 99 the game is normal just a lost cooler!

Agree with smaller open, but in this case it would be the same result regardless. Not sure if you want to shove with the sb covering you, min-raise folding to the 125K stack preserves your equity, whereas open shoving risks losing that equity (per ICM).

You should have min-raised here. Open shoving is definitely wrong considering stack sizes.

Personally I think the btn was gonna shove even if you made it 3x or 4x or even shipped it. Some players just like getting all in with any A lol you was correct to call and just got unlucky in the flip but then again the bloody A always seems to get there lol good luck grinding bro

I prefer the min raise in this spot. As stated, 3xing is not optimal.
