First off do you think the preflop RR was bad? I only had 19 hands on the guy so wasn't quite sure how to attack that.

But as played this is what I came to, tell me if I might be wrong. This was a tough spot for me.

Pot odds: 2120: 4240 which is 2 to 1

Need to win: 33%

Odds to win vs. AQ+ and flush draws: 39%

villian is unkown at this point. Not sure what I should be doing.

The pot odds you stated aren't the only consideration since calling doesn't put either of you all in. If you think calling would mean you're both pot committed, then you should look at the pot odds as if he had shoved. If not, it's more complicated since it involves who will fold to which size bets on what kinds of turns.

OK....I hate when I get this response when I post a hand history because I find it mostly unhelpful...but here it comes: "I would fold it preflop"

now....I don't mean fold AJ in the Hijack to a raise every time. Mostly it is because we are new to the table (I'm guessing because we have 6 or fewer hands on several players) and because our stack size doesn't leave a lot of room for 3betting, Cbetting and then laying down.

and because the initial raise came from relatively early position it is probably not a WORSE ace....and because we are mostly covered at the table...all these things point to letting AJ go...THIS TIME.....

If you're going to 3bet preflop, then I would go a touch bigger. something between 550-600

on that flop...well..if you were already dominated then nothing has changed. if you were facing exactly 22, A2 or Q2 (unlikely) then your status has not changed. if you were facing 33-KK then you just sucked out! I guess, I don't know if I can 3bet AJo then fold on a AQ2 flop...BUUUUT....what worse ace could he have? does he have KK and a death wish? It's a tough spot for me too....

I once heard that top poker players don't navigate through tough decisions better. They are better at avoiding tough decisions in the first place.

THAT is why I lean toward folding the AJo when I'm new to a table in mid/late position.

First off, your reraise is so small you are urging him to call.

Second, if A hits on the flop and opponent bets big, are you going and willing to continue?

If not, then I think we better just call or fold.

i fold preflop.

Postflop , i dont think this is a set or A2 , based on stats the player seems rather tight , so what could it be? i put him on a range of AK,JJ,AQ,QQ,AA,KK preflop , i dont really think he called that with worse ace basically i think you are 100% behind here.

The error though begins from preflop , when you 3-bet a hand you do it because you think worse hands will call you otherwise you simply dont 3-bet or you just call.

Since you 3-bet with this on mind then i dont think you can get away from this hand , you have to shove and hope villain has worse ace , that was your plan all along right? if you fold then you basically accept that your plan preflop was wrong.
