$0.25 NL HE: KK re-raised AI on

This is still fairly early in the tourney, 3rd blind level, got moved to the table a couple of orbits ago and have no real reads. I get dealt KK in MP and get into the following situation on the flop. How would you respond? Thanks in advance!

Call all-in at this point. You've put in about 45% of your remaining chips already and no one reraised PF (like AA should have done to isolate). He could have a set here, but on level three and what looks like an aggro player based on his stack at this point I think you're ahead as often as you are behind. And this early on and getting short stacked, you're better off shoving and either winning a lot of chips or just being done and finding your next game imo.

Ditto what JD says. You beat the majority of opponents range and you have a club burned giving the FD less outs.

I agree. All-in. This early on, you could very well be playing an overly aggressive player who's just trying to win the pot. Honestly though, I would have raised more pre-flop. You got way too many callers here, and that really doesn't look good with two callers for 420 and one guy going all-in. Also, note that this guy has at least doubled up, and barring getting AA, he probably went in on a marginal hand and won on it.

I agree with Kuberr, in the lower-limit buy-ins, you will need to raise a little higher pre-flop as many players don't take into consideration the pot-odds, just that "well it's only 90 more chips..."

Other than that, I would have to say you have to move all of your chips in. I would guess that Player 5 probably had something like AJ or KJ. As for the two callers, maybe two low pocket clubs? It's a possibility that Player 5 has a set, it would make sense that he pushed to try to chase the flush draws out.

I think you have to call. If someone has J8 then they got lucky and there isn't a ton you can do, but they likely have QJ or JT in this spot, maybe even a flush draw.

Thanks for the responses. They confirmed my suspicions; I indeed called and the villain had indeed paired his jack, which didn't catch any help for the rest of the hand. :)

Good deal. How did you end up doing in the tourney? It was a $50 freeroll so I imagine there were a couple thousand others involved, but it's still nice to cash in those big donkfests.

I think you misread, it was actually just a .25 SnG, so not that big of a deal. Grinding them out right now with the $2 I got from pokerstars, and the 3 extra I got from an unnamed magical poker fairy (THE Poker Fairy, by the way)... you know who you are!

In any case, I ended up scoring 5th place after somewhat freezing up at the final table with cold cards and not enough cojones to steal some blinds from the more passive players. Gotta work on that! I've been doing ok overall. Managed to nearly double the roll to over $9; have slid down a couple bucks since but considering I've only been playing "real" poker (i.e. for money, not just freerolls) for about 2 weeks, I'd say I'm not doing too shabby... even if they are only quarter tourneys. Gotta start somewhere right!

Best, T.

Congrats on building the bankroll. Nothing like growing from nothing to something.

Actually, when I posted that last entry, I was looking at the hand history saying "PokerStars - Get $50 Free No Limit," thinking that it was the name of the tournament you were in. After my first post I didn't look at the title of the thread anymore.
