I do not think generosity is part of the business model for many poker sites.
This is all about making money. If they were doing something before and it was not profitable (and did not draw new visitors to the site) then why would they?
But in any case, there are always lots of freerolls around. Fenomeno, WCOOP, Daily Kickoff, Bounty Builders, Cards Chat, regional satties, etc.
I'm going to toot my own horn here, because I finally got into a decent cash last night with the WCOOP Main Event (LOW)...and cashed for $991.50.
The investment for me was $0.22. I played a WCOOP freeroll. Reboought for 11 cents and paid 11cents for the add-on. Won a $109 ticket (October 25th).
Sunday played the WCOOP and made it through to day 2. Last night, finished 346th..just shy of $1000.
The point, apart from me just getting a chance to brag, is that was nearly $1000 won on poker stars for almost no investment at all. Wouldn't you say that was generous?
I do miss the Wekend UK-only tourneys Cards Chat used to put on in conjunction with poker stars...that was a good little bankroller...and very generous, I suppose. But indeed it is gone...to brazil and germany. I guess there is more potential for growth there.
But you don't have to restrict yourself to playing poker stars. Get an account on each of the other sites. Look for their new member deposit bonuses (but read the T's & C's as you usually have to stake that amount before you can withdraw it.
But across all the sites, there are plenty of opportunities for cheap chances at real money.
All the best,
JT
