partypoker was probably the first poker site I played at when I started years ago. I pretty much only play at pokerstars now.

I think it depends on what you're looking out of your poker client for aw well as what type of games you play. Stars has a significantly more volume which is always a good thing as it means prize pools are larger or you'll have a lot more options for tables to sit down in if you play cash.
I think a negative mark on Stars is that they have basically no rakeback, especially if you're a profitable player. Secondly, the flip side of large player pools is... You have to beat more people to make it into the money in tournaments, but they also tend to have a deeper pay out structure so it's easier to min cash but it's a LOT harder to go super deep as there's sometimes 10 times the field size.
party poker's main blemish in my opinion was their removal of HUDs and Hand Histories which happened recently. If you're able to put in the volume, PP has a really generous rake back structure, between 20-40% if you can clear $25 or more in rake a week.
I think it really depends what you're looking for and what aspects of each site would complement your game the most. If you're just starting, I recommend poker stars so you can review your hands after your session.
*I play micros so some of the things I've found with player pool size may change at different stakes. I hope this helps tho!!

In addition, Pokerstars allow you to play at micro levels, which I understand that Partypoker does not exist. And you can only play at medium and high levels.
I never played in a party, 888 I found it very interesting but they restricted it in my country (argentina). So I only play in Pokerstars.

I would agree with those who said it depends on what you're looking for. One main thing to consider is the comparative rake between the two sites, which you can find here (not sure how dated this is though).

PartyPoker is trying to take away players from PokerStars. The regulars, offended by the new Stars' loyalty program, flocked to the Party in a herd. And PokerStars does not interfere with their freedom of choice.
